Spezia v Venezia
🏟
Saturday 2nd April – 2:00PM KO
It was said before Venezia’s Serie A game against Sampdoria before the international break that they simply must win at least two of their next three games which are against teams in the bottom half. They lost that game 2-0 in a very disappointing fashion and it means the pressure when they head east to La Spezia will be immense.
Spezia are far from out of the woods themselves. They had been on a horrendous losing run before they beat fellow strugglers Cagliari 2-0 recently. They might be a poor side in serious danger, but they will be the more confident team in front of their own fans when Venezia come to town.
The Arancianeroverdi seem to be feeling the pressure and will be without French striker Thomas Henry for that very reason. He talked himself into a red card against Sampdoria and had a pretty serious altercation with head coach Paolo Zanetti as he trudged off. They know they’re in real danger.
Given the lack of bite that they have shown over the past few weeks and the clear lack of togetherness in the dressing room, it is hard to picture Venezia arriving at Spezia and taking all three points.
There’s a very real chance that both of these teams will look back at this game as the one where their season took a definitive turn, be that for the better or worse.

Lazio v Sassuolo
🏟
Saturday 2nd April – 5:00PM KO
Two of the four highest scoring teams in the division meet on Saturday and that means it is a game worth making time for. Chuck into the mix that they are the two leakiest defences in the top half of Serie A and the chance of seeing goals is about as high as it could be.
Lazio will need to put in a good performance and get the fans back onside after their humiliating 3-0 defeat in the Derby della Capitale before the international break.
There will also be two strikers on the pitch who will have differing levels of confidence after a chastening international break for Italy. Lazio’s Ciro Immobile drew another blank when North Macedonia surprisingly ended Italy’s hopes of going to the World Cup in Qatar.
Sassuolo’s Giacomo Raspadori meanwhile, started the next game against Turkey and scored twice, showing Roberto Mancini that perhaps he should have started against North Macedonia.
A Ciro Immobile with a point to prove and a Sassuolo side who are in great form with a confident Giacomo Raspadori is a recipe for a lot of goals.
Lazio need to get back to winning ways if they are to qualify for the Europa League next season. Fiorentina are just two points behind them in eighth but also have a game in hand. Sassuolo could be seen as in the fight if they win this game as it’ll put them just three points behind Lazio.

Salernitana v Torino
🏟
Saturday 2nd April – 7:45PM KO
Salernitana’s form under David Nicola has not picked up enough in recent weeks to suggest that any sort of great escape is on the cards.
Whilst Torino may not have much left to play for this season, they have a strong enough defence to make it hard to picture Salernitana finding the back of the net here. On top of that, Torino have scored less goals than Empoli, Sampdoria and Udinese this season who are all beneath them in the table.
This match might not be one that many people have got noted down in the calendar because the chance of an abundance of goals feels incredibly slim. Torino boss Ivan Juric has garnered a reputation as a master tactician in recent years and he will be fuming at his team if they concede a goal against a Salernitana team that has only scored 22 goals this season.
The main encouragement for Salernitana is that Torino are without a number of players who routinely start for the Granata. Paraguayan forward Antonio Sanabria is still out injured and Ivory Coast defender Koffi Djidji is also out. AC Milan loanee Thomas Pobega is suspended after his red card in Torino’s last outing.
Add Mohamed Fares and Dennis Praet to that list and David Nicola might think that there’s a chance his side can get the better of Torino.
