📈 West Brom v Sheffield United Form & Stats

It was too little, too late, for West Brom in midweek, who put in an excellent second half display against Southampton. Unfortunately they were already 3-0 down at half-time. The Baggies can't seem to put a full 90 minutes together, is that down to the coach or the players? They have only two wins in 10 and find themselves increasingly looking over their shoulders.

Looking at them from a statistical perspective, they sit down near the bottom of mid-table for most attacking metrics, but they have also started conceding more goals of late, which is obviously a really poor combination. There are still positives to see from West Brom, but they need to put 90 minute performances together and string some positive results into a run.

Sheffield United failed to make it five wins in a row on Tuesday night, but did at least gain another point to not lose all momentum. In fairness, Norwich deserved something from the match, in what was a high quality and entertaining game.

United are running at a positive xG differential since Chris Wilder took charge again in September, 1.86xG generated per match vs 1.12xG against, a +0.74 xG differential per match, which is fairly dominant form. Wilder will still want to get that xG against figure down to around 1, but he cannot be upset with how performances have improved under him.

West Brom are using a fairly straightforward 4-2-3-1 shape. Aune Heggebø has found a goalscoring touch to add to his industry, but Isaac Price has lost his mojo in front of goal at exactly the same time unfortunately.

Alex Mowatt must be a doubt for this one having been taken off injured in the defeat to Southampton in midweek. Toby Collyer and Jed Wallace also remain in the physio room rather than on the pitch. Mikey Johnston will expect to return to the team if the wide forwards are rotated.

Sheffield United are using a 4-4-2 shape which has been working wonders for them, at least until midweek where Norwich came and picked some holes in it. Some of that weakness may have come through rotation, as eight changes were made by Chris Wilder.

We expect to see the return of Gus Hamer, Patrick Bamford, and Tyrese Campbell at least, but Sydie Peck and Jairo Riedewald may still miss out.
