Those of you following me on Twitter have already seen my first Checklist Accumulator for today’s Premier League matches. I have been enjoying betting on team shots on target a lot recently; it’s extremely exciting, you don’t have to worry about particular players being subbed or sent off, and the bet stays alive until the final whistle.
For today’s matches, I have created a Shots on Target accumulator at odds of just over 6/1. Kick off is at 3pm. Here she is:
Watford to have 4 or more Shots on Target
Watford surprised everyone last weekend when they put 5 past Everton at Goodison Park. In that match they managed 20 total shots, 8 of which were on target.
This season they average 3.78 shots on target per match, Southampton concede on average 3.33 shots on target per match. At home, Watford managed 4 on target vs Newcastle and 8 on target vs Villa. They did, however, fail to get 4 or more shots on target at home against Liverpool and Wolves.
Southampton conceded 5 shots on target away to Newcastle and 6 shots on target away to Everton. They suffered a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Burnley last Saturday, Burnley managed 5 shots on target.
Emmanuel Dennis is suspended for Watford but Juan Hernandez and Ismaila Sarr are expected to play either side of Josh King who scored a hat-trick last Saturday against Everton.
Burnley to have 4 or more Shots on Target
Brentford have a number of injury concerns for today’s match. David Raya was injured against Leicester so will be replaced by fellow Spanish goalkeeper Alvaro Fernandez.
There is also a chance key defender Ethan Pinnock will miss out. He also went off vs Leicester and missed the midweek Cup match vs Stoke. He will be a huge loss, Ajer who replaced him last weekend has only just come back from injury himself.
Burnley impressed last week, coming from behind twice to get a result away to Southampton. They average 3.33 shots on target per match this season, they had 5 away to Southampton last week, managed 2 away to City, had 3 at home vs Arsenal and 6 away to Everton.
At home against a weak Brentford side you’d fancy Burnley to create a number of chances and hopefully manage at least 4 on target.
Verona to have 4 or more Shots on Target
Juventus slipped to 7th in Serie A midweek after losing 2-1 at home to Sassuolo, they now sit only three places above today’s opponents – Verona.
Although 10th in the league, Verona have actually scored the 5th most in the league. They average 2.20 goals scored per match, more than Lazio, Roma and Juventus.
They’ve won their last three home league matches against Roma (3-2), Spezia (4-0) and Lazio (4-1), they’ve only actually lost one of their last seven league matches, 3-2 away to AC Milan.
Verona average 3.70 shots on target per match, Juventus concede on average 3.50 shots on target per match.
Given it’s vs Juventus, there’s great value for the home side to get at least 4 shots on target. If I was braver I’d be taking Verona 5+ shots on target at 3.10!
Tottenham v Man Utd: 9 or more Shots on Target in the match
What to say here? Can Spurs pile even more pressure on Ole? Will there be a big reaction from Utd and we see a huge away win? One thing is for certain, there’ll be plenty of action.
Man Utd average the third highest number of shots on target per match in the league – 5.44 per game. Spurs average the 8th most with 4.11 per game. As you’d expect, Man Utd also concede a lot, 4.67 shots on target conceded per match, Spurs concede 4.22 shots on target per match.
There have been at least 8 shots on target in every Man Utd and Tottenham match this season. There have been at least 9 shots on target in every Man Utd match.
Spurs will really fancy their chances here against a wounded side. Meanwhile, Man Utd really need to make a statement here, another defeat and they could actually drop into the bottom half of the league. Expect goals and plenty of shots in North London this evening.
