The first round of 32 tie at the 2026 World Cup takes place on Sunday night, as South Africa take on Canada at Los Angeles Stadium.
South Africa recovered well after opening their campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Mexico, drawing 1-1 with the Czech Republic before beating South Korea 1-0 to secure second place in Group A.
Canada also had to settle for second place behind Switzerland in Group B, meaning the co-hosts have lost home advantage for this knockout tie.

📂 South Africa v Canada Cheat Sheet
📈 South Africa Recent Form
South Africa arrived at the World Cup without a win in five matches and got off to the worst possible start, losing 2-0 to co-host Mexico and having two men sent off in the process.
Bafana Bafana, however, have responded well, drawing 1-1 with the Czech Republic before edging past South Korea 1-0 to secure progression to the Round of 32.
They will now be boosted by the return of key midfielder Teboho Mokoena, who was suspended for their final group match against South Korea. On the injury front, Hugo Broos has a fully fit squad to select from.
📈 Canada Recent Form
It was a mixed group stage campaign for Canada, whose only win came against Qatar, either side of a draw with Bosnia and a defeat to Switzerland.
However, those four points were enough to see Jesse Marsch’s men finish second in the table, with their loss to the Swiss remaining their only defeat across their last 11 matches.
Ismael Kone suffered a serious injury against Qatar on matchday two, which brought the midfielder’s World Cup to a premature end.
Stephen Eustaquio is expected to return to the Canada starting XI after being named on the bench against Switzerland last time out, partly as a precaution due to a muscle issue.
