St Louis v LA Galaxy
Kick Off: Saturday 14th June at 21:30
Competition: MLS
The two lowest-placed sides in the Western Conference face off, hoping that this game can be the victory to turn the tide for their season. St Louis have fared slightly better than LA Galaxy with three wins from their 17 matches so far while the away side have only won one of those fixtures.
That win for LA Galaxy did come last time out over Real Salt Lake, who aren’t too much further up the table, sitting just a point and a place above St Louis. However, it does show that LA Galaxy may be able to get some joy here despite what has been an underwhelming campaign so far.
⭐ St Louis v LA Galaxy Predictions and Best Bets
Neither of these sides have a solid defensive record as you would expect from two teams battling towards the bottom of the Western Conference. LA Galaxy have conceded the joint-most goals across the two conferences in the MLS this season (36). 21 of these goals were conceded away from home (58%).
St Louis have avoided defeat in five of their eight home games this season. Only two of these have resulted in victories, but it’s certainly stronger than LA Galaxy’s away record which has seen them lose seven of their nine games on the road and they are yet to pick up all three points on their travels.
Given how poor LA Galaxy have been on the road, and St Louis’ decent home record in comparison, the home side can be backed here to take something from the game, just as they did when these sides met back in March, as they ran out 3-0 winners over LA Galaxy.
🔴 Inconsistent St Louis Look to Build Momentum at Home
St Louis’ recent record does not make for the best reading; they’ve lost four of their last five matches across all competitions. However, it’s worth noting that all four of these losses were away from home; the one game that St Louis did play at home in this sequence resulted in a 2-1 win over San Jose, who currently sit in the play-off spots in the Western Conference.
St Louis have found goals a bit hard to come by this season, scoring just 14 across their 17 games so far. Their top scorer this season is Cedric Teuchert who has scored just three goals this term. St Louis have had to rely on their home performances this season, and this could be the game which kickstarts their season. All three points here would take St Louis to within five points of a play-off spot, despite their inconsistency at the start of this campaign.
⚪ Defensive Frailties and Key Absence Challenges Galaxy on the Road
It has taken 17 gameweeks for LA Galaxy to record their first victory of the MLS season, which came last time out as they saw off Real Salt Lake by a 2-0 scoreline. It should be noted that this wasn’t the most convincing of victories, with LA Galaxy allowing Real Salt Lake 19 shots in the game, resulting in an xG of 1.46.
Their away form has been particularly poor, with seven losses from their nine games on the road this campaign. They’ve conceded 21 goals across these away fixtures, which is unsurprisingly more than any other side in the MLS and is not sustainable as their form card would further suggest.
LA Galaxy will be further hindered by the absence of Edwin Cerillo in the middle of the park, who is suspended for this game. He is an important player for LA Galaxy and will be missed here as they attempt to register just their second win of the season.
📊 St Louis v LA Galaxy Head-to-Head Key Stats
These sides have already faced off this season back in March, which resulted in a comfortable 3-0 win for St Louis away from home. They only had 30% of the ball but were incredibly clinical with their chances, breaching the LA Galaxy backline three times from just five shots on target and an xG of 1.98.
St Louis are actually unbeaten in each of the last five head-to-head meetings between these sides in a run that stretches back to 2023. The two most recent matches have seen St Louis come out on top, which gives them another slight advantage over this poor LA Galaxy side.
