Leeds v Stoke

📅

Kick Off: Monday 21st April at 15:00

🏆
Competition: EFL Championship

Leeds United host Stoke City on Easter Monday, with both teams still having plenty to play for.

Leeds are still battling it out for promotion with Burnley and Sheffield United, and a win here would all but secure a return to the Premier League. With the latter two playing each other this evening.

Stoke should be able to survive now, seven points clear of the drop with three games to play, but won’t be able to relax until safety is confirmed.

Daniel Farke’s Leeds have been so good at limiting the chances the opposition have been able to create this season.

They have conceded just 29 goals in 43 games, which is closely aligned with their xGA (expected goals against) figure. However, they seem to be a bit easier to score against at present, perhaps the nerves of the season climax and having to deal with the constant accusations that they are ‘falling apart again’.

They have kept just one clean sheet in their last six home games, when in the six home games before that, they had kept four.

We still expect them to overcome Stoke with the attacking threat that they possess, so this looks a good way of siding with them and getting an odds-against price.

🔍 Leeds v Stoke Players to Watch

Jayden Bogle

One of Leeds main attacking outlets is via their full backs, with Jayden Bogle and Junior Firpo bombing forward at every opportunity.

It is right back Bogle we want to be with here, having scored an impressive six goals so far this season. He has taken two or more shots in 11 of 41 starts. The ratio increases at home, covering this bet in 7 of 19 games.

Stoke have faced 20 shots or more on seven out of 21 occasions on the road, and when hosting Leeds at the bet365 Stadium, they conceded 20 shots.

🔴 Lewis Baker

Lewis Baker has played a massive role in helping Stoke towards survival, despite only being part of their squad since being recalled from his loan at Blackburn Rovers in January, contributing five goals and two assists in 15 appearances.

Leeds don’t concede many shots on target, the most they have faced in any game is six, and they have only faced more than three on six occasions at home.

The 1.66 about Baker to try his luck just once represents value and is the best price on the market.

💻 Leeds v Stoke Form and Tactics

After three straight draws, it looked like Leeds' promotion bid was about to derail, but three wins in a row and Sheffield United taking their turn at falling apart has worked in Leeds' favour., They now find themselves with the title in their hands.

There has been no change to how Leeds go about things, 4-2-3-1 with full backs bombing forward and central midfielders shielding the central defenders. They have the highest possession figures, the most touches in the opposition box and average two goals per game.

Stoke City are in good form themselves, picking up the same amount of points as their hosts over the last five games. It’s not been revolutionary stuff since Mark Robins' arrival, but he has managed to eek out a small improvement from The Potters in terms of results, picking up an extra 0.3 points per game, which doesn’t sound like much, but over the course of a whole season it would have seen them closer to mid table than the relegation zone.

He seems to be able to get the best out of attacking midfielder Lewis Baker, who was recalled from his loan spell at Blackburn, where he spent the first half of the season, and has since scored five goals in 15 games.
