Brondby v Randers
🏟
Sunday 3rd April – 3:00PM KO
The split has finally happened and in Denmark, we really are in the business end of the season. If you’re unaware the Danish league has now split into two groups. Much like the Scottish Premiership, we have the Superligaen Championship Playoff and the Danish Superliga Relegation Playoff. Now for as close as the relegation playoff will be the focus this season is no doubt the Championship. Three teams have a realistic chance of taking the title and Brondby are one of those.
Since September, Brondby have only lost one league game all season. That one game? The very last game of the regular season. Brondby had started the season on awful form considering they are the reigning champions, but very quickly things changed, there 6 month run of form saw them close the gap on the top until they were title contenders once again.
But why will Brondby beat Randers. Well first off, they are at home. It has been 8 years since Randers have been able to beat Brondby in the Broendby Stadion. Of their last 10 games in all competitions Randers have won once. Brondby create more chances per match and scores more goals per match than their opposition. The end all point is, Brondby are still very much a winning side, they are chasing the championship and after a break they will be more than eager to fightback after their loss on the last day. Meanwhile, Randers are lucky that they still even made the Championship group considering their form in the 2nd half of the season.

Aalborg v Copenhagen
🏟
Sunday 3rd April – 5:00PM KO
If I had to pick my game of the weekend for you to keep your eyes on it would be this one. Aalborg, 4th after the regular season, and Copenhagen, 1st after the regular season, will face off in a game that may well shape how the Danish league season ends. When it comes to the Championship and Relegation split, getting off to a good start is crucial. Playing all your closest rivals and after each game you lose another chance to close in. With Copenhagen at the top by 6 points, a win on Sunday could mean they already have one hand on the title.
Aalborg could be the shock pick in the postseason. They sit 4th in the table, only 2 points behind a Brondby side they just humiliated 3-0 on the final day of the regular season. Aalborg as the home side will look at this game as a potential final opportunity. A win in this match could be their ticket to genuinely challenge for a title. By taking 3 points off the top team in the league not only would they close the gap on them but they would also be closing the gap both Brondby, who they could leapfrog, and Midtjylland who are only 4 points away. Both teams are more than enough reason to throw their all into this match.
What this all spells to me is goals, and there is good reason for that. Aalborg have scoredd three goals in their last two games, their have been 21 goals in their last 6 home games, that’s over 3 goals a match. Copenhagen have score 43 goals this season (1st) while Aalborg have managed 36 (3rd). It’s hard to call the final result, but it’s not hard to see the outcome. Goals galore.

Midtjylland v Silkeborg
🏟
Monday 4th April – 6:00PM KO
By far and away the two most exciting teams in the league, Midtjylland and Silkeborg are going to offer a fast paced, free flowing, ever changing game that could be too close to call. How do we know this? Because they’ve only just played each other on the final day of the regular season. In that game Midtjylland won 1-0 thanks to a 93rd minute winner, so why both teams to score? In that same game there was 30 shots, 12 of which were on target. It was a game where the Goalkeepers made 11 saves and stopped the game turning into a bloodbath.
On the day Silkeborg were by far the better team and they will be more than angered that they came away with less than 3 points never mind 0. So far this season, despite being separated by 4 places in the table, Midtjylland and Silkeborg are very similar. Both are conceding and average of 1.0 goal a game. Retrospectively they are averaging 1.7 and 1.5 goals scored a game and combined they have both been involved 32 games where both teams have scored, just this season.
The 1-0 result at the end of the regular season was in my opinion the equivalent of a freak of nature. Both the Goalkeepers were on the form of their lives with the forwards of both teams constantly finding the space and creating the opportunities to get a shot away. The Championship group is a different animal and for both sides the tension is raised the meaning I can only see this game going one way. Constant attacking football with both teams finding the back of the net.
