Our MLS Scout has been on a fantastic run lately, and he is back once again to give his thoughts behind this weekend’s selections, having fallen just short of an MLS Bonus Accumulator winner by one goal on multiple occasions.
We have reached the final round of MLS matches prior to the All-Star game in midweek and the beginning of the Leagues Cup next week so with teams playing in the competition for the final time in a month on Sunday morning, we should expect some top action.
This all means that the next time MLS will be played after these games it will be graced by Lionel Messi and whoever else gets purchased before the transfer window closes on August 2.
We have some appealing matches to close out the first part of the season with and with 14 fixtures taking place across America and Canada we have plenty of ammunition to look to land a bumper accumulator to close out the early stage.
Having twice come within a goal of landing a big punt here is what we have on our betslip for this round of matches. The first accumulator takes advantage of the Bet365 soccer bonus, with our MLS scout backing either a team to win or both teams to score in each of the four games.

Sunday’s 10/1 MLS Bonus Accumulator
Philadelphia Union v New York City FC
⏰
Kick off: 00:30
📈
Odds: 1.95
It says everything about how good this set of matches is that the repeat of the last two Eastern Conference finals is largely going under the radar as the Philadelphia Union host New York City FC at Subaru Park.
NYCFC won the first of those Conference finals while the Union gained revenge last season and with the home side potentially getting goalkeeper Andre Blake back after his exit from the Gold Cup, they are likely to go from strength to strength.
New York City are proving hard to beat but they aren’t winning many matches, especially away from home where they have won just once all term, which was in Montreal recently but that win doesn’t look overly great.
After a tough stretch of five games in six away from home, Philadelphia will be delighted to be back in front of their own fans where they have won their last four and are 7-2-1 for the season with 21 goals for and just six against.
The eight-game unbeaten run of New York has seven draws in it. I think it comes to an end here in one of the matches of the week.

Chicago Fire v Toronto FC
⏰
Kick off: 01:30
📈
Odds: 1.75
We remain in the Eastern Conference for the fourth leg of the accumulator where a suddenly firing Chicago Fire side take on a team in Toronto FC who are doing anything but firing at the minute.
The positive for Toronto FC here is that they are likely to have their Canadian internationals back after their exit in the Gold Cup last weekend but even with them this is a team who have won three of 23 matches this term and lost their last five, scoring just one goal in those matches.
Chicago have won four of their last five and after a really slow start to the season they are getting some quality out of Xherdan Shaqiri which is important because the Swiss star should be too good for this league.
The Fire have picked up two home wins in quick succession and I think they are good things for a third straight victory against a Toronto side who have now lost powerful midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye to an interesting trade.

St Louis City SC v Inter Miami
⏰
Kick off: 01:30
📈
Odds: 1.61
If there is ever a case of an ideal time to play a team then St Louis City SC have that here as they will be the final team to face Inter Miami before a certain Lionel Messi joins the ranks of the Florida based outfit.
St Louis City head into this one after going down in the standout midweek fixture against Los Angeles FC on Wednesday. No defeat to the champions can ever be criticised too badly though.
What will have given some positivity to St Louis fans is seeing Eduard Lowen on the bench in Los Angeles and the DP star could be ready to return from injury here.
Miami would have hoped that the impending arrival of arguably the best player of all time will have sparked their squad into winning action but that hasn’t happened.
Miami head to Missouri without a win in their last 10 matches and while they have drawn their last three, I expect a St Louis outfit who are 7-1-3 at home with 26 goals to be far too good for a team who have been exposed too often for my liking and who St Louis beat 4-0 in a pre-season friendly before this term began.

Real Salt Lake v New York Red Bulls
⏰
Kick off: 02:30
📈
Odds: 2.05
We head to Rio Tinto Stadium for the final leg of the four-fold where the form horse of Real Salt Lake play host to the New York Red Bulls in a key game for both sides.
I believe Real Salt Lake are huge MLS Cup contenders from here on in and they kind of highlighted why in midweek when they came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in Kansas City and were unlucky not to complete the comeback in style.
Chicho Arango brings so much to their attack and their depth in that area of the pitch really is beginning to look like a huge advantage. Arango came off the bench in midweek and immediately set up the first goal, while fellow sub Anderson Julio scored the equaliser.
The Red Bulls have nothing like that sort of quality or depth and they struggle to put wins together on the road. The Red Bulls have only won one match on their travels this season, which was at Inter Miami who are the worst team in the league and who had previously missed a penalty before New York scored the only goal of that game.
Rio Tinto is notoriously tough to go to historically and while that hasn’t been the case all of this season, I do expect it to be from here on in, so I like the RSL win here.

Sunday’s 41/1 MLS Accumulator
Atlanta United v Orlando City
⏰
Kick off: 00:30
📈
Odds: 1.66
The first game I am targeting is the rivalry clash between Atlanta United and Orlando City who came into the league at the same time but who have had very different successes to date.
Atlanta are former MLS Cup champions and are on course for another decent shot at the playoffs but they will need to come out of the upcoming break in fine style. They will be out to go into it in positive fashion here and could have Giorgos Giakoumakis back to assist them.
Orlando have been a little harder to work out in recent times with them beating Toronto FC 4-0 and then losing to Real Salt Lake by the same score in their last two matches.
Inconsistency isn’t anything new at this stage of an MLS season but one thing I do think will be consistent here is that we get another high scoring match in Atlanta. I regularly highlight that Atlanta are always on the front foot at home but Orlando should fancy their chances going the other way, even if it is only on the break.
The over 2.5 is 8-3 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium this season and with five of the last six Orlando outings also going over I like goals here.

New England Revolution v DC United
⏰
Kick off: 00:30
📈
Odds: 2.30
One of the more high profile matches in the early hours of Sunday morning comes from Gillette Stadium where a resurgent New England Revolution side host a DC United outfit who are days away from hosting the MLS All-Star game.
It is ironic this is the final fixture before that clash as it was a surprise to everyone that Carles Gil was not considered good enough to be in the All-Star squad. He gets the ideal chance to showcase how wrong that was here.
The Revs are a seriously strong side at home. The midweek win moved them up to second in the East and maintained their unbeaten record at Gillette Stadium. DC United continue to plod along in the middle of the table, picking up the odd result here and there but generally struggling when they come up against good sides away from home.
DC only have two away wins all season, one in Miami who are the worst team in the league, and the other in Dallas who were without star striker Jesus Ferreira at the time.
This looks a tough ask for DC and with the Revs having a fully motivated Carles Gil and a seriously good support cast around him I expect a home win here.
