Charlotte v DC United
🏟
Thursday 4th August – 12:00AM KO
Moving into the early hours of Thursday morning and we have an Eastern Conference clash between Charlotte FC and DC United, one which both teams will be wanting to win in order to keep hopes of extending their season into the MLS play-offs realistic.
These two had very different weekends. DC United enjoyed a last-gasp come-from-behind victory against Orlando City, an opponent who have accounted for two of their six wins this term, while Charlotte FC were waiting around after just 16 minutes of their match with Columbus Crew was possible due to lightning and bad weather in the area.
That DC match was on Sunday so they won’t have a huge amount of time to prepare for this one and when you consider they will be transitioning in style under Wayne Rooney, who took charge for the first time against Orlando, you would have to imagine that the road struggles of the former champions will continue here.
DC have won just two of nine matches on the road this season and five of the 10 goals they’ve scored in that time came in the one match so they know where they need to improve, but they go to a potentially fresher Charlotte team who have seven wins in 10 at home this term and who have conceded just seven goals in those matches.
Charlotte looked worthy favourites when the odds came out for this game but when you consider DC played on Sunday while Charlotte warmed up but did little else on Saturday, the fresher side look good things here.

San Jose Earthquakes v Inter Miami
🏟
Thursday 4th August – 3:30AM KO
The final match to kick off in the midweek round of matches comes from PayPal Park where the San Jose Earthquakes play host to Inter Miami in a clash which sees two sides outside their respective top seven places battling it out.
We are at a do or die stage of the campaign for both these teams and it is beginning to show. Inter Miami were involved in an incredible 4-4 draw with FC Cincinnati at the weekend where it was evident they were all out to win the game.
San Jose could only draw 2-2 with Real Salt Lake at the weekend but there were signs in that match that they were prepared to risk losing to chase a win they really need. That desire for a win is only likely to increase in this match so we can expect another end-to-end contest with a draw not really doing much for both sides.
Home advantage should play into the hands of San Jose, but I’m not rushing to get behind a team who have only won two of their last 10 matches. We saw at the weekend that both these sides have goals in them and I would rather target my attention in more of those to come along here.
San Jose went through a tight spell when they changed managers but they have reverted to playing in an open way, dictated by their poor league position, while Inter Miami have some top attacking talent at their disposal and should go from strength to strength offensively now that Alejandro Pozuelo has had time to bed in after his move from Toronto FC. I like over 2.5 goals in this one.
