⚪ Positive Signs in the Thomas Frank Era
Spurs were able to rescue a point against Brighton last time out, in what Thomas Frank described as his sides ‘most complete’ performance of the season so far.
Considering the Lilywhites have already pulled off some impressive results under their new manager - a 2-0 victory against Man City at the Etihad, a 3-0 win against London rivals West Ham and even a 1-0 win against Villarreal in the Champions League, it really does show how Spurs have improved leaps and bounds since last season.
Frank will likely opt for some rotation midweek, but has plenty of options to call upon. Xavi Simons and Brennan Johnson will hope to reclaim their starting spots, having only featured from the bench against Brighton, while Mathys Tel was an unused substitute in that game.
Spurs definitely have the squad depth to compete on multiple fronts, and Thomas Frank will likely look to put together a deep cup run.
🔴 Doncaster Hoping to Reignite Their Fire
Doncaster secured automatic promotion from League Two last season in what was an incredibly convincing campaign. The Rovers secured top spot, four points clear of Port Vale in second and seven points clear of the playoff spots. They were able to continue that momentum into the new campaign, adapting well to life in League One following their relegation back in 2022.
Doncaster were second in the league after seven games, boasting a record of five wins, one draw and one loss. However, they have regressed in recent weeks and come into this clash following back-to-back losses.
Last time out, they were on the receiving end of a late comeback against Wimbledon, who were able to snatch victory at the Eco-Power Stadium despite trailing after 70 minutes.
Prior to that, Doncaster were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Wigan, conceding twice within the first 15 minutes. The Rovers will hope to recover their early-season form here at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
📊 Tottenham v Doncaster H2H
It was back in 2009 when these sides last faced off against each other, in an EFL Cup clash which finished 5-1 to Spurs.
Prior to that, Tottenham hosted Doncaster in another League Cup clash which ended 7-2 in favour of the hosts.
