Altrincham v Chesterfield
🏟
Tuesday 22nd March – 7:45PM KO
Altrincham finally ended a run of one win in 18 matches in the National League in mid-February and did so in style, winning four in seven, keeping five clean sheets and scoring 12 without reply at home during matches against Dagenham and Redbridge, Weymouth and Eastleigh. Any minor concerns about a potential relegation have all but gone – they are now 18 points clear of 21st place Weymouth with 11 games to play.
Chesterfield have found things tough since the suspension and eventual dismissal of James Rowe, drawing five and losing three of their last 13 to see their title chances all but disappear – they are now seven points behind Stockport County having played a game more and with six of the top 11 still to play. However, they are now five unbeaten and starting to find some stability in a new 4-2-3-1 shape.
The statistics aren’t too favourable for a BTTS here. Altrincham haven’t been involved in one for seven matches and Chesterfield have only done so in three of their last six. However, Altrincham’s recent fixtures never really let themselves to BTTS, with the exception of Dagenham and Redbridge who misfired on the day, while Chesterfield kept clean sheets against a dull Yeovil Town and a Maidenhead United side without star men Josh Kelly, Sam Barratt and Dan Sparkes. They are Chesterfield’s only clean sheets in their last ten.
Both sides play attractive 4-2-3-1 styles with midfield runners, ball carriers and crosses being key. It should lend itself to an open, entertaining game of football in which both sides go for three points rather than settling for one.

Eastleigh v Dagenham and Redbridge
🏟
Tuesday 22nd March – 7:45PM KO
It’s been a frustrating season for Dagenham and Redbridge but it appears as though they are finding form at the right time again.
They were dealt a blow on Saturday with defeat against fellow play-off contenders Notts County but Daryl McMahon, who tends to be honest in his appraisals, was at a loss to explain how his side managed to lose the game having been equal in the first half and on top for most of the second. A strong performance should give them confidence going into Tuesday night’s game with Eastleigh, especially having won each of their previous three matches by 3-0 score lines. The back three is settled again after some injury issues, Matt Robinson is back in midfield while Junior Morias and Paul McCallum are forming a lethal partnership in attack – they have seven goals and three assists in their last four matches.
If Lee Bradbury was unsure about the task facing him at Eastleigh, he knows about it now. His side have conceded nine goals in their last two matches and he was dealt a blow at the weekend after a couple of players dropped out with COVID – key men Andrew Boyce and Ryan Hill amongst them. A small squad was stretched to the point that a full debut was given to youth team player Brendan Willson on Saturday. Eastleigh have been pretty strong at home this season but have won just one of five matches against sides in the top ten and just one of their last 13 overall.
The hosts are unsettled and out of form while the visitors are settled and full of confidence in the final third.

King’s Lynn Town v Stockport County
🏟
Tuesday 22nd March – 7:45PM KO
Tommy Widdrington was understandably overjoyed by his side’s 3-0 victory at Aldershot Town on Saturday and his post-match comments talking up the ability of his players and wanting to work with the group he had was in complete contrast to his words after Torquay United when he suggested some of his players were not good enough.
Malachi Linton was the hero on Saturday, scoring twice to give Widdrington just his third win as manager of King’s Lynn Town and some positives can be taken from a run of four defeats in ten matches, even if they have won just two of those. However, they’re playing Stockport County in midweek.
This is a side that have won 12 of their 16 away matches this season. They have won 14 of their last 15 overall. They have won their last five away matches by more than one goal. They have won 12 of their last 18 matches by more than one goal, including each of their last three. They have scored two or more goals in all eight matches away from home against bottom half sides. They have a perfect record against bottom half sides since Dave Challinor took the reins.
King’s Lynn Town’s three wins under Widdrington have come against sides placed 23rd, 21st and 20th in the league table. They have conceded two or more in five of seven home matches against top half sides and conceded two or more in four of their last six – the others being against Woking when goalkeeper Paul Jones had an exceptional game and Saturday’s win against Aldershot.
The hosts will likely try to disrupt and scupper any momentum the visitors try to build but Stockport are used to that and should win this one comfortably.

Torquay United v Aldershot Town
🏟
Tuesday 22nd March – 7:45PM KO
Torquay United saw their seven-game unbeaten run come to an end on Saturday but should still come into this one with some confidence after a positive first half away from home against the side with the best home record in the division.
Gary Johnson’s side have lost just three of their last 16 matches with those coming against top seven outfits FC Halifax Town and Solihull Moors as well as a defeat away at Eastleigh who have been strong at home this season. The Gulls have played nine matches against bottom half sides during that run and have won six and drawn two of those. They have also scored in all of those matches and twice in seven of them. Gary Johnson’s side have also won five of their last six matches at Plainmoor against bottom half sides.
It makes grim reading for Aldershot Town, who were beaten comfortably by King’s Lynn Town on Saturday. Despite remaining nine points above the relegation zone with a game in hand on both Weymouth and King’s Lynn Town, Mark Molesley was keen to point out that his side have to start picking up points because they are in a relegation battle.
There’s little reason to suggest that will happen on Tuesday. Their only two victories in 2022 have come against Woking, a derby game, and Weymouth. They have accrued just one point from seven matches away from home against top half sides and have lost five of their last six and won one of their last ten overall, scoring just six goals – expected for a side that lacks a natural focal point.
