Tunisia looked well out of their depth against Sweden, so Japan should dominate here.

Tunisia face Japan at Estadio BBVA in Monterrey for their round two group stage fixture, knowing that a defeat will almost certainly confirm their elimination from the tournament.

This matchup against Japan promises to be a tough one for them - the Asian side snatched a point from the Netherlands last time out with a late equaliser.

📁 Tunisia v Japan Cheat Sheet

Generic

📈 Tunisia Recent Form

Tunisia qualified for the World Cup through a solid CAF campaign, finishing in the top two of their qualifying group to secure automatic progression.

However, their recent form heading into the tournament has been a major concern - they struggled for consistency in their warm-up friendlies and looked far short of the level required to compete with the stronger sides in Group F.

In round one at Estadio BBVA in Monterrey, those concerns were realised as Sweden dismantled them 5-1 in one of the most one-sided results of the opening round. Multiple individual defensive errors contributed to the scoreline, and Tunisia now face a must-win scenario against Japan.

📈 Japan Recent Form

Japan, unsurprisingly, had a comfortable qualifying campaign, and they are arguably the strongest Asian side at the World Cup. Japan produced an impressive display in round one, despite drawing a tough matchup against the Netherlands, and they came away with a 2-2 draw after coming back from behind twice.

Hajime Moriyasu's side kept things tight in their 5-2-3 formation, and if they can maintain that level of organisation there is no reason why Japan won’t get through the group stages - their toughest game is done, and they will hope to pick up three points against Tunisia here.
