Tunisia make their seventh appearance at the FIFA World Cup this summer, extending their record as one of Africa's most consistent qualifiers on the global stage.

Across their previous six appearances, the Eagles of Carthage have won three, drawn five and lost ten, yet have never once made it past the group stage.

Now, making their third consecutive World Cup appearance, this generation carries the weight of a nation still searching for that elusive knockout-round breakthrough.

🌍 How did Tunisia qualify for the 2026 World Cup?

Tunisia were almost perfect in the qualifiers for the African region with 28 points from a possible 30, winning nine of their ten matches and drawing the other, scoring 22 goals and keeping a perfect 10 clean sheets throughout.

Drawn alongside Equatorial Guinea, Namibia, Malawi, Liberia and São Tomé and Príncipe, Tunisia secured qualification with a 1-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea in Malabo with Mohamed Ben Romdhane heading in a 94th-minute winner. Tunisia finished the group a full 13 points clear of second-placed Namibia.

👔 Who is the Tunisia manager at the World Cup 2026?

Sabri Lamouchi was handed the Tunisia job as a replacement for Sami Trabelsi, who was dismissed following a Round of 16 exit at the 2025 AFCON to Mali.

The Franco-Tunisian coach brings a wealth of experience across Europe and Africa. He guided Ivory Coast to the 2014 World Cup and has managed Rennes, Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City at club level.

This will be his second World Cup as a coach, though the challenge is considerable as he has only managed just two matches so far, still getting to know his players ahead of the tournament.

🔎 Who are Tunisia's key players to watch at World Cup 2026?

Ellyes Skhiri

Ellyes Skhiri is the heartbeat of this Tunisia side and the man Lamouchi will build everything around. The 31-year-old Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder has accumulated 81 caps for Tunisia, making him one of the most experienced players at this tournament.

Now at his third World Cup having featured in both Russia and Qatar, Skhiri brings a wealth of big-game experience that will be invaluable in a tough group.

This season he has made 25 Bundesliga appearances and featured in eight Champions League matches for Frankfurt. A defensive midfielder who can also drive forward, when Skhiri controls the tempo, Tunisia are a different side entirely.

Hannibal Mejbri

Hannibal Mejbri arrives at this World Cup with the confidence of a player who has well and truly established himself at national level. At 23 years, the Burnley midfielder has over 40 caps for Tunisia.

He will be in line for his World Cup debut after controversially missing the 2022 edition in Qatar. He got 4 assists and a goal in difficult campaign for a Burnley side who got relegated.

Creative, energetic and capable of the unexpected, Hannibal gives Tunisia something different in midfield.

Elias Achouri

The Copenhagen winger has been one of Tunisia's most exciting players over the past year and arrives at this World Cup with European pedigree behind him.

Featuring in seven Champions League matches this season, Achouri has demonstrated he can operate and influence games at the highest club level.

Fast, direct and a constant nuisance for opposing defenders, he provides Tunisia with a genuine wide threat and the ability to create chances from nothing.

Best Free Bets, Offers & Betting Sites for World Cup 2026

The World Cup is the best time to create a new bookmaker account because the Bookmaker Offers are much better. Andy and the Andy's Bet Club experts have tried and tested the Free Bets, and here are their favourites:

Tunisia are currently 500/1 to win the 2026 World Cup.

Tunisia have proven a difficult squad to break down, as they showed against England in 2018.

That being said, there is little to no chance of them lifting the World Cup this summer.

Tunisia are in Group F alongside the Netherlands, Sweden, and Japan.

GK: Dahmen

DEF: Valery, Talbi, Bronn, Abdi

MID: Ben Slimane, Skhiri, Hannibal, Khedira ; Achouri

ATT: Tounekti, Ayari

Sweden vs Tunisia kicks off at 03:00 GMT on June 15. Tunisia vs Japan kicks off at 02:00 GMT on June 21. Tunisia vs Netherlands kicks off at 00:00 GMT on June 26.

Ellyes Skhiri brings a wealth of top-class experience, and his defensive work sitting in front of the back four will leave Tunisia exposed in a competitive Group F.

Ali Abdi and Elias Achouri are on penalties for Tunisia, whilst Hannibal Mejbri, Ali Abdi, Ismael Gharbi, and Elias Saad are on free-kicks.
