Union Saint-Gilloise will lock horns with Inter Milan at Lotto Park in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

After getting their campaign up and running with an impressive 3-1 win away at PSV, the Belgian champions were brought back down to earth with a bump when losing 4-0 at home to Newcastle.

Inter Milan, on the other hand, have produced a pair of professional displays to see off both Ajax and Slavia Prague. Christian Chivu’s side know that another victory here will put them in a strong position to secure qualification to the knockout round.

These Union St Gilloise v Inter Milan Betting Stats offer further insight.

Inter Milan to Win

I would expect Inter Milan to have enough in their locker to put another three points on the board in Belgium on Tuesday. Christian Chivu’s side have made a quietly impressive start to the season, with Saturday night’s 1-0 victory away at Roma making it six wins in succession.

The Italian heavyweights have already seen off both Ajax and Slavia Prague with little fuss over the opening two rounds of league phase action, and I would argue that Union Saint-Gilloise will represent a similar standard of opposition. What’s more, Inter have some tough looking fixtures to come later in the campaign, so another win here would put them in a strong position to secure a top-24 berth.

While the hosts claimed an eye-catching 3-1 win away at PSV on matchday one, they were completely outclassed in their subsequent Champions League fixture, suffering a 4-0 thrashing  when hosting Newcastle.

The fact the hosts were forced to hire a new manager last week only adds to the appeal of backing what is a well-oiled Inter Milan machine to take top honours at Lotto Park.

Over 1.5 Goals

While Inter Milan only needed one goal to see off Roma on Saturday night, they have been scoring goals for fun this season. In fact, Chivu’s high-flying side have racked up a league-high 18 goals across their opening seven matches of the Serie A campaign. That impressive strike rate has coincided with all bar one of Inter’s seven league games this season featuring over 1.5 goals.

On top of that, the San Siro outfit have also struck twice in each of their two wins in this season’s Champions League. With that in mind, I think we will see at least two goals at Lotto Park on Tuesday night.

What’s more, each of Union Saint-Gilloise’s two outings in this season's Champions League have broken the over 3.5 goal barrier, not to mention eight of the hosts’ 11 assignments in this season’s Belgian Pro League have featured two or more match goals.

Lautaro Martinez to have 1+ Shots on Target

Lautaro Martinez looks like a strong and sensible option to hit the target at least once on Tuesday night. Following a stuttering start to the season in front of goal, Martinez looks like a player that has rediscovered his goalscoring mojo in recent weeks. The Argentine attacker registered three on-target efforts during Inter Milan’s 3-0 win over Slavia Prague on matchday two, making the net bulge with two of those efforts.

What’s more, Martinez has got himself on the scoresheet in two of his last three outings in Serie A, posting a combined total of three shots on target in the process.

As such, the 28-year-old forward will be rubbing his hands at the prospect of coming up against a Union Saint-Gilloise side that have shipped five goals across their opening two Champions League games of the season. Moreover, the Belgian hosts gave up six on-target efforts in their aforementioned 4-0 defeat against Newcastle, further strengthening the case for Martinez to work the Union SG goalkeeper.

Hakan Calhanoglu to be Fouled 1+ Times

Hakan Calhanoglu looks a little overpriced to be fouled at least once on Tuesday night. The Inter Milan maestro is a player that has been winning free-kicks with some regularity this season. Calhanoglu has been brought down in each of Inter Milan’s opening two matches in this season’s Champions League, while he has drawn an average of 1.02 fouls per 90 in Serie A this term.

That knack for winning fouls was also on show during the recent international window, with Calhanoglu drawing one foul or more during Turkey's wins over both Bulgaria and Georgia.

Calhanoglu is likely to cross paths with Kamiel Van de Perre in the midfield battleground on Tuesday night. The Union SG midfielder was guilty of three offences against Newcastle on matchday two, collecting a yellow card in the process. The 21-year-old has also overstepped the mark once or more in five of his six outings in this season’s Belgian top-flight.

📈 Union St Gilloise v Inter Milan Form & Tactics

Union Saint-Gilloise have made a strong start to the defence of their Belgian Pro League title, winning eight of their opening 11 games of the campaign. No team has scored more goals than USG (22) in this season’s Belgian top-flight, while the hosts have also conceded the fewest amount of goals (6).

The home team were forced to make a managerial change last week after Monaco swooped for Sebastien Pocognoli. David Hubert has since taken charge, hitting the ground running with a 3-1 win over Sporting Charleroi on Saturday.

Union Saint-Gilloise have hit exactly seven corners in each of their two outings in this season’s Champions League, while the home team have averaged a shade under six flag kicks per game in this season’s Belgian Pro League. The Belgian champions were shown four yellow cards during their Champions League home game with Newcastle, too.

Inter Milan will be feeling good about themselves after making it four successive wins in Serie A with a narrow 1-0 win away at Roma on Saturday night. Throw in the fact that Inter have won their opening two Champions League games of the season, the visitors will arrive in Belgium targeting a 7th straight victory.

The Italian giants’ impressive start to the season has been built on a solid defensive foundation, with Christian Chivu’s side silencing their opponents in four of their last six wins. Moreover, Inter are one of only two teams that have yet to concede a goal across the opening two rounds of league phase action.

Inter Milan have been shown exactly two yellow cards in each of their two matches in this season’s Champions League.

📔 Union St Gilloise v Inter Milan Formation & Team News

Having only just taken the reins at Union Saint-Gilloise, it’s difficult to know what to expect from new manager David Hubert. That being said, Hubert stuck with the 3-4-1-2 system that was deployed by previous boss Pocognoli during Saturday’s 3-1 win over Sporting Charleroi.

Hubert has a nearly fully fit squad to choose from, with forward Mohammed Fuseini the only reported absentee for the hosts. Raul Florucz should come back into the Union SG squad after serving a one-game suspension against Newcastle on matchday two.

Christian Chivu typically sets his side up in a 3-5-2 formation, though it can often change to a 3-4-2-1 system during matches. The Inter boss encourages his side to play with an aggressive pressing system, with both wing-backs given plenty of licence to get forward.

Matteo Darmian will miss out for Inter Milan due to a calf injury, while influential forward Marcus Thuram is a major doubt after missing Saturday’s 1-0 win at Roma.
