Brage v Ostersund
🏟
Wednesday 3rd August – 6:00PM KO
This one looks set to be a complete mis-match between two teams that are opposite ends of the table and are in very different shape off-the-pitch, too.
Brage are still challenging towards the top end of the table after a slight dip in form whereby they had been winless in three matches. However, the hosts come into this on the back of a much-needed 3-1 defeat of mid-table Orebro at the weekend.
Under the management of Kleber Saarenpaa, who has been in charge since January 2018, they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting second-in-the-table. They have been very efficient in terms of their defensive performances with just 16 goals conceded so far this season, in 16 games. No team has conceded fewer goals than that.
Ostersund have had a few years of enduring financial difficulties and they were relegated from the Swedish top-flight last season. The visitors have continued their steep and consistent decline, sitting rock-bottom in the Superettan.
They sit at the bottom-of-the-table with just one victory in their 16 matches so far this season. In doing so, they have managed to score just 11 goals and they have only scored in half of the games that they have played. Given that record, they are unlikely to come close to challenging the home team’s very solid and impressive defence.
Brage will be expecting to make it back-to-back victories and keep up the pressure on league leaders AFC Eskilstuna.

Trelleborg v Halmstad
🏟
Wednesday 3rd August – 6:00PM KO
This looks set to be an absolute cracker between two sides that are challenging towards the top end of the Superettan table.
Trelleborg come into this on the back of an entertaining 3-2 win away at Norrby in their most recent outing, at the weekend. That made it back-to-back victories for the home team as they begin this midweek’s round of fixtures having broken into the top three in the table.
The hosts have done so by being very entertaining to watch. As shown by that aforementioned 3-2 win. That victory was the fifth of their last six matches to have featured both teams in the game scoring. Their 16 games so far this season have consisted of 50 goals, which is an average of over three goals per game.
They now face a Halmstad side that, under the management of Magnus Haglund, have recovered from their surprise relegation last season to open up a gap at the top of the Superettan table.
The visitors sit six points clear of Brage in the second-tier table and the away team now come into this on the back of three successive victories. They have also performed successfully in an entertaining manner. The 34 goals they have scored so far this season has only been bettered by one team, Brommapojkarna.
Halmstad do have a strong defence but 16 goals conceded does mean they have conceded a goal per game. So, this should be a very intriguing encounter for the neutral.

OIS v AFC Eskilstuna
🏟
Thursday 4th August – 6:00PM KO
Like a couple of other games in the Superettan in this midweek round, this is a match between two sides at opposite ends of the table with very different outlooks and hopes for the rest of the second division campaign.
Orgryte come into this on the back of a slender 1-0 win away at Utsiktens at the weekend. The home team are now unbeaten in their last three matches and they have lost just one of their last eight matches. That run of form means they have steadied themselves down the bottom but, as one of the weakest sides in the division, they remain very much down the bottom.
They have conceded 28 goals so far this season and only one team, J-Sodra with 31, have conceded more goals than them.
They now face an AFC Eskilstuna have been, at times, extremely impressive and, at other times, very underwhelming in their efficiency so far this season.
Under the management of former Director of Football Jawad El Jebouri, they have won just one of their last four matches as they sit in a group of six teams separated by three points, below runaway league leaders Halmstad.
The visitors, alongside the aforementioned league leaders Halmstad as well as Brommapojkarna, have been the Superettan’s entertainers so far this season. They have scored 33 goals and conceded 25 so far as their inefficiencies and inconsistencies are laid bare by a fairly gung-ho approach, at least in relative terms to Swedish domestic football.
Regardless of the end result in this one, as AFC Eskilstuna are too unpredictable to trust, it should be an entertaining encounter and there should value in the goals markets.

J-Sodra v Vasteras
🏟
Thursday 4th August – 6:00PM KO
This should be an entertaining encounter between two of the sides that are struggling in the bottom-half of the Superettan. Despite struggling for results, though, they haven’t been short of goal scoring.
Jonkopings Sodra come into this on the back of a 1-1 draw away to bottom-of-the-table and fairly hapless and hopeless Ostersund in their most recent outing at the weekend. A 1-0 win in the reverse fixture against the same opposition is their only victory in their last nine matches. As mentioned, though, they have been capable going forward.
The hosts have scored 22 goals so far this season and no team below an established promotion-chasing top eight have scored more. However, the 31 that they have let in is comfortably the most in the league.
They now face a Vasteras side that, under the management of Kalle Karlsson, finished in the bottom-half of the table last year and were expected to battle against relegation, once again. They have been in the third-tier for the vast majority of their history since 2005.
However, much like J-Sodra, they have shown a capability in opposition territory. No team below the top eight have scored more than J-Sodra but J-Sodra have notched as many as Vasteras. The visitors have also been weak defensively with J-Sodra’s 31 being the only team to have let in more.
The two teams’ records so far this season, as well as their evident difficulties in struggling to dominate matches, it should be quite a fun match for the neutral.
