Fifth hosts fourth in the Championship as two famous old clubs clash to round off Friday’s Championship programme.
Many people will look at this as Leeds’ talented forwards against the organisation and solidity of West Brom. Whilst this may simplify the match-up to an unnecessary degree it also has a kernel of truth about it.
Daniel Farke will obviously be well aware of the ability of Carlos Corberan to produce a gameplan to stifle his teams, Farke faced Corberan when they managed Norwich and Huddersfield respectively, but getting a positive result at The Hawthorns is something that only two teams have managed so far this season.
Many of the bet builder markets rely on being able to understand what the pattern of the match may be. Leeds will be wary of falling into the trap of West Brom on the counter, but also have to be careful to not allow The Baggies to take dominance in the match, as they are well capable of stream-rollering a team as well.
There are lots of angles to consider when putting together a bet builder for this fixture. To do this we have the aid of our fantastic cheat sheet and with some extra analysis in certain aspects of the match there are some excellent angles to add to a bet builder.

⚽️ Match stats: Teams well matched defensively but Leeds have the edge offensively
Despite West Brom having the reputation as the defensive masters heading into this fixture, it is actually Leeds that have the most impressive defensive data in the league so far this season according to Opta.
Leeds’ xG against is 20.7, less than a goal a game, a ratio that only Leicester and West Brom can also boast. Leeds also slightly have the edge over West Brom when it comes to shots against, with Leeds allowing 7.62 to West Brom’s 8.32.
However, much of Leeds’ success comes from their domination at home. Leeds allow around a quarter of a goal more xG away from home, albeit they are still top four in away defensive numbers.
The difficulty in ranking West Brom as one of the best teams in the league is their struggle to create. Their home figures place them bang in the middle of the league for chance creation, 16.7xG in their 12 home matches.
This could be a low scoring, tense match, more in the vein of Leeds’ trip to Leicester than their demolition of Ipswich at Elland Road.
Predictions:
⚽ West Brom double chance @ 1.67
🎯 Shooting stats: Can Leeds’ forwards live up to their seasonal performance?
Both teams could struggle for fluency going forwards, as mentioned above, and especially if there is no early goal in the game.
However, there are some players that are in such great form that they will be relied on to break the defences of their opponents and get some shots away.
Crysencio Summerville is on fire at the moment and the young Dutchman has a lot going for him by way of being able to create chances for himself as well as being the go to man for moves between the other Leeds forwards. He is averaging the highest non-penalty goals and assist rate in the league, and around 3.5 shots per game.
Predictions:
⚽ Crysencio Summerville to have 1+ shot on target @ 1.40
🚩 Corner stats: Leeds away are a different corner beast to Leeds at home
The home and away difference with Leeds is a big factor in their corner supremacy.
When just looking at Leeds’ total corners data they are one of the lowest total corner teams in the league, but a lot of that is as a result of allowing their opponents so few corners at Elland Road.
Away from home they fall into the same category as most of the league in actually having fewer corners than their opponents, and by a decent margin as well (4.75 v 6.58). West Brom could be value in the corner match bet market.
This is especially the case when observing that West Brom, though not by a wide margin, do win more corners than their opponents on average at The Hawthorns.(6.33 v 5.5).
It is also worth mentioning that, as can be seen in the numbers quoted, Leeds average over 6 corners conceded away from home and West Brom average over 6 corners won at home, 6 or more corners for West Brom could be worth a bet.
Predictions:
⚽ Over 5.5 West Brom corners @ 2.10
⚽ West Brom corner match bet @ 2.20
🛑 Foul & Cards stats: Two low foul and low card teams go into ‘battle’
Leeds are joint lowest in the Championship for yellow cards earned, West Brom have ten more yellows across the season so far, but that still places them in the lower half of the league.
When it comes to fouls West Brom are the team that concedes the fewest in the league at only 7.34 per 90 minutes. Leeds sit 8th in that list with 8.75 per 90. It could be a fairly quiet afternoon for the referee.
However, individual battles will commence regardless and one area worth focusing on is the West Brom right/Leeds left.
Summerville is Leeds’ 2nd most fouled footballer behind Georginio Rutter and Darnell Furlong has committed by far the highest number of fouls from a West Brom player this season.
With the addition of the super rapid Djed Spence who is being favoured on the Leeds left at the moment, this gives an extra problem to Furlong on that side.
Georginio Rutter is also worth watching on the other side of the ball as well. As the key presser in the Leeds attack he picks up a lot of fouls, indeed, he has committed the most fouls in the Leeds squad this season.
Predictions:
⚽ Darnell Furlong to commit 2+ fouls @ 2.10
⚽ Darnell Furlong to be shown a card @ 3.10
⚽ Georginio Rutter to commit 2+ fouls @ 1.80
⚽ Georginio Rutter to be shown a card @ 6.50
