I think Aberdeen look well placed to come away from their clash away at Dundee on Saturday with at least a point.

While the season is still in its infancy, Stephen Robinson's side appear to be building some real momentum, having won all four of their Scottish League Cup group stage matches before claiming a dramatic 2-1 victory over Hearts in their opening Scottish Premiership fixture last weekend.

Aberdeen will therefore head to Dens Park in high spirits and with a large travelling support behind them.

Dundee, meanwhile, put in a spirited display during a 1-0 defeat against Celtic on Monday night. They are very much a team in transition after losing several key performers from last season.

With Aberdeen having already given themselves plenty to feel positive about at the start of the new campaign, the visitors look a solid selection on the double chance.

I'm keen to back Ayr to score at least once against Dunfermline on Saturday.

Ayr have made an excellent start to the season under new manager Gary Naysmith, qualifying for the knockout round of the Scottish League Cup impressively by winning all four of their group stage matches. That included an eye-catching 1-0 victory away at Scottish Premiership side Falkirk.

Naysmith's side carried that momentum into their Scottish Championship opener last weekend, beating Arbroath 2-0.

Therefore, Ayr shouldn't be fazed by a trip to a Dunfermline side who were held to a 0-0 draw by Inverness last weekend.

Neil Lennon's side kept a clean sheet in that match, but that's something they failed to do during the Scottish League Cup group stage against the likes of both East Kilbride and Dumbarton, further strengthening the case for the visitors to strike at least once on Saturday.

Backing over 2.5 goals in games involving East Kilbride was one of my favourite angles of attack last season, and I don't see any reason to abandon it this term.

Mick Kennedy's newly promoted side made a real statement of intent last week by thrashing Queen of the South 5-1 in their opening game of the season.

There was also no shortage of goals during East Kilbride's Scottish League Cup group stage campaign either, with all four matches featuring over 2.5 goals and three of those fixtures producing at least five goals.

While Airdrie were held to a goalless draw away at Cove last Saturday, three of their four Scottish League Cup matches also featured over 2.5 goals, including both of their home fixtures.

Everything points towards another entertaining encounter here, with over 2.5 goals looking well within range and both teams more than capable of contributing to the scoring.

Hamilton got off to a flyer last week with a 5-0 win away to Montrose.

Montrose are no mugs either. Last year they finished 6th and had started the season fairly positively in the League Cup with wins against both Dundee United and Arbroath.

However, Hamilton ran out comfortable winners, racking up nine shots on target in the game.

It was also their second 5-0 win in a row after also beating Elgin 5-0 the week before in their final League Cup game.

Alloa are a well organised team under Andy Graham and finished 4th in League One last season.

However, they didn’t get off to the best of starts last week, drawing 0-0 with East Fife, one of the sides tipped to be in and around the relegation zone this season.

I can’t get match stats from the game, but from reading the reports it sounds like Alloa had plenty of the ball without creating too much or really causing East Fife problems.

That could be where they struggle against Hamilton. Accies have been very solid defensively so far, conceding just twice across their four League Cup games, with one of those goals coming from the penalty spot.

Ross County are heavy favourites here and rightly so. They’re the title favourites with the biggest budget in the league and will be expected to make it two wins from two when they host Montrose on Saturday.

Montrose were thumped 5-0 at home by Hamilton last week, conceding nine shots on target while managing just two themselves.

Ross County had a very impressive League Cup campaign, winning their group with three wins and a draw and scoring 11 goals in the process.

They carried that form into the opening weekend with a 1-0 win away to Peterhead. The stats suggest it was a fairly comfortable victory too, with Ross County having 13 shots to Peterhead’s eight and five shots on target to three.

With Roy McGregor’s backing, Ross County are building a squad that could compete in the Championship, never mind League One. There looks to be a big gap between these two sides, and I think Ross County will win this comfortably on Saturday.
