Southampton are rightly favourites here, but I do think it will be an entertaining game with the attacking talent that the away side have and the form they carry into the contest.

Bristol City have won each of their last three matches ahead of this game, seeing BTTS in each of these fixtures. Their most notable victory came away against Burnley last time out, showing that Bristol City can cause some of the better sides in the division real issues on the road.

Both league meetings between these sides last season saw BTTS with the most recent clash producing four goals as the sides played out a 2-2 draw. Southampton have seen BTTS in each of their last five matches, including heavy home victories over Swansea and Millwall.

York are favourites here but I wouldn’t be in a rush to go against Swindon who have won three of their opening five matches and have scored eight goals in the process.

Swindon were a pretty reliable side to back for goals last season, finishing just three points adrift of the playoff spots having scored 70 goals across their 46 matches (1.52 per game) with 32 of these goals coming on the road (1.39 per game). 

York have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their five matches in League Two so far this season and are clearly quite comfortable with high scoring matches having seen two 3-2 scorelines already this season. 

I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve seen from Sheffield Wednesday so far this season, they sit top of League One after the opening five matches and have won four of these games.

They’ve scored the joint most goals of any side in the division (13) which isn’t that surprising when considering the level of attacking talent that exists within the squad. Jamal Lowe has already scored four goals, with the likes of Slattery, Barry and Mason Burstow also pitching in.

This frontline is really strong for League One, and there is a balance about the side even away from forward areas with Yan Valery being another standout performer from fullback.

Wigan have lost four of their opening five matches in League One and sit rock bottom of the table. They’ve only scored five goals across these games, which is a level of firepower that is unlikely to trouble the home side who have a range of goalscoring options.

Both of Wigan’s away games in League One this season have ended in defeat, and 1.7 is a nice price for Sheffield Wednesday to add to that misery. 

I find it quite insane that Stockport are priced at 1.87 to win here against a Leicester side that don’t look to be heading in any direction under Russell Martin.

I had my concerns about his appointment due to his style of play and the gruelling nature of League One. I thought they would start slow, but the Foxes have been even worse than I imagined - most recently losing 4-0 to Oxford in front of their own fans.

By contrast, Stockport enter this game with three wins from their opening five matches and beat Wigan 4-0 on the road last time out. I think they should be a lot shorter to win, and they are one of my picks to be around the playoff spots this year.

This looks like a game where the Leicester players could down tools on their manager, and I'm willing to make the most of that misery until he does depart.

Barnsley are a bit all over the place at the moment following a mixed start to the campaign which was compounded by their 5-1 defeat to Stevenage in front of their own fans last time out.

Barnsley have seen 3+ goals in each of their last four matches ahead of this clash. In fairness to Daniel Stendel’s side, they did win the three games prior to that bruising defeat but the defensive vulnerabilities of this Barnsley side are obvious and can be exploited by Plymouth.

Plymouth saw five goals last time out as they came away 3-2 winners over Doncaster on the road. Both league meetings between these sides last season produced 3+ goals, with Plymouth actually managing to cover this line on their own when the sides last met.

Barnsley conceded 36 goals on the road in League One last season and their recent form would suggest that a clean sheet is unlikely. They’ll be eager to bounce back though, and do have the attacking options to cause Plymouth issues in what should be a high scoring game.

Cambuur are a newly promoted side from the Eerste Divisie and are attempting to play in the same way that guided them to a second placed finish last season - which is a bit naive.

They’ve lost four of their opening five matches in trying to persist with this system which leaves them quite open at the back, even if it does allow them to have a platform in forward areas. They’ve conceded the joint most goals of any side in the Eredivisie so far (18).

Nijmegen will welcome Cambuur’s style of play as they also take plenty of risks in forward areas. No side saw a higher BTTS % in Europe last season than Nijmegen, who have also seen BTTS in each of their last three matches ahead of this clash.

Both league meetings between these sides last season saw BTTS, with Ajax coming out on top in both matches by 3-1 and 4-1 scorelines.

Fortuna Sittard were actually pretty unlucky to lose this fixture last season, they recorded an xG of 2.72 from 26 shots in defeat - and I think they will cause Ajax problems again here.

Ajax are favourites to win but I wouldn’t be in a massive rush to back them for a result. Sittard have actually scored more goals than Ajax in the Eredivisie this season (11-9) and sit above them in the table having won three of their opening five matches.

The home side have also seen BTTS in four of their last five games, adding a decent hit rate to the wider context surrounding this game. Ajax also have the same hit rate over their last five matches, and saw BTTS last time out as they fell to a 3-1 defeat to PSV. 

The top two sides in the Swiss Super League face off in what could be an early six pointer in the title race. 

The Swiss league was turned on its head last year with newly promoted Thun managing to win the league, but it looks to have settled back into a semi norm with both of these sides being amongst the early top performers.

Young Boys have seen BTTS in each of their last four matches, notably avoiding defeat across these games. They’ve actually conceded 14 goals across their opening seven matches, so they can’t rely on emerging with a clean sheet.

Lugano’s defensive record may look a bit off putting on paper, but Young Boys are the biggest test they’ll have faced so far this season and both sides emerging as early front runners makes this an intriguing game that should see goals at both ends. 

Groningen were one of my favourite teams in the Eredivisie last season to back for goals at both ends, and they’ve started this season in a similar fashion with BTTS landing in each of their last five matches across all competitions.

It’s a perfect matchup for goals really with Go Ahead Eagles also seeing BTTS in each of their last five matches, notably losing just one of these games. Their most recent outing produced six goals as they shared the points with Utrecht on the road in the form of a 3-3 draw.

Only two sides in the Eredivisie have actually managed to score more goals than Go Ahead Eagles (14) so far this term, but the 12 goals they’ve conceded is a cause for concern and is a tally matched by Groningen - suggesting that we’re seeing two very weak defensive setups face off here.

Barnet are favourites to come away with the three points here (1.57) but they’re likely to be involved in a high scoring game to claim the points given the trends we’ve seen in Accrington’s recent matches.

Accrington have seen BTTS in four of their last five matches, including each of their last three. Accrington have really deserved their goals in these games too, registering an xG of 2.0 or higher in all three of these matches - including in their 3-2 win over Crawley last time out. 

Barnet have avoided defeat in each of their last five matches, but have notably failed to keep a clean sheet in any of these games. They may well dominate proceedings again, but that defensive vulnerability is too appealing to ignore.
