After enduring a wretched start to their Scottish Premiership campaign, Aberdeen will switch their attention to the Europa Conference League when they welcome Shakhtar Donetsk to Pittodrie on Thursday.
The Dons, who are currently propping up the Scottish top-flight, dropped down to Europe’s third tier competition after suffering a 5-2 aggregate loss to FCSB in a Europa League play-off tie.
As for Shakhtar, they secured their place in the league phase of the Conference League after beating Swiss outfit Servette in the play-off round.

📈 Aberdeen v Shakhtar Donetsk Form & Stats
Aberdeen are aiming to pull themselves out of their early-season rut that has seen them pick up just one point from their opening six Scottish Premiership games of the season.
The Dons looked to be on course to claim a 0-0 draw away at Motherwell on Saturday, before conceding a couple of goals in the dying embers of the game. That latest setback has piled the pressure on under-fire Aberdeen boss, Jimmy Thelin.
While Aberdeen’s woes can be attributed to the fact that they have yet to score in this season’s Scottish Premiership, they also look extremely fragile at the back, posting just two clean sheets across their 10 matches in all competitions this term.
Ill discipline has also cost Aberdeen at times this season, with Thelin’s team being reduced to 10 men in two of their last six outings, including the second leg of their Europa League play-off tie with FCSB.
After dining at Europe's top table for the last 14 years, Shakhtar are gracing the Europa Conference League for the first time ever this season, and they are among the favourites to win the competition.
An uncharacteristic 3rd place finish in last term’s Ukrainian top-flight saw Shakhtar enter this season’s Europa League qualifiers, where they lost on penalties to Panathinaikos in the third round. The Miners then secured a spot in this season’s Conference League by the skin of their teeth, with an extra-time winner needed to see off Servette.
However, it is worth noting that Arda Turan’s side are unbeaten in five matches since then, taking top honours from four of those contests. That run is made all the more impressive by the fact that Shakhtar have managed to silence their opponents in each of those four victories.
