📈 Aston Villa v Brentford Form & Tactics

After finding themselves 2-0 down after 49 minutes, Aston Villa were able to fight back and win 3-2 against Salzburg midweek. Even though that result didn’t mean too much, it was nevertheless a confidence-boosting victory in front of a home crowd. The Villains finished second in their Europa League standings, having won seven of their eight matches overall.

After suffering a 1-0 defeat against Everton last weekend, which ended an eleven-game winning streak, Unai Emery’s men will hope to bounce back strongly here.

Brentford had a streak of their own ended recently, as they lost 2-0 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Prior to that, the Bees were unbeaten in six games, and were looking dangerous. However, they have stuttered recently, and suffered another 2-0 loss against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Keith Andrews remarked about how his side needs to find their clinical edge again, as Brentford were left to rue missed chances against the Tricky Trees. The Bees had ten shots amounting to 1.81 xG - they were high-quality opportunities, with nine shots coming from inside the box, but only one hit the target. Forest were much more efficient, scoring twice from their seven shots, which were worth 0.78 xG.

📔Aston Villa v Brentford Formation & Team News

A couple of fresh injury concerns have emerged for Brentford since last weekend, as Kristoffer Ajer and Mikkel Damsgaard both had to be replaced in the first-half against Nottingham Forest. Sepp Van Den Berg should be a straight replacement at the back to partner Nathan Collins, while Dango Ouattara looks set to make his first start for the Bees since returning from AFCON, which would see Matias Jensen move into a more central position.

George Hemmings was handed his first senior start midweek, but lasted only until half-time before being replaced by Matty Cash. That shifted Lamare Bogarde back into midfield alongside Amadou Onana, and they should partner up once more here with Youri Tielemans and Boubacar Kamara out. Pau Torres and Ezri Konsa are expected to return to the backline. With Evan Guessand linked to a move away to Crystal Palace, Jadon Sancho looks set to start on the right wing, with John McGinn injured.
