It is turning into a real three way battle for qualification out of Group J. Belgium’s inability to beat North Macedonia earlier in the week has given this match a different complexion.

If Wales manage to win this match, they will be firmly in the driving seat for automatic qualification, with North Macedonia to come to Wales in November.

If you want more stats ahead of this clash, you can get them from our Wales v Belgium Betting Stats.

Belgium Double Chance @ 1.20

There is a chance for this match to be quite tight, and it is important that we back Belgium in the win or draw market because the draw is a big runner here.

Belgium's inability to win their last match against North Macedonia means that for them to have the best chance of finishing top of the group and qualifying automatically for the World Cup next month, they really could do with maximum points here.

They dominated the shot count and the xG against North Macedonia, generating over 3xG on the day, so it is not as if they aren't creating enough chances, it seems to be the finishing touch that they lacked in that fixture.

Belgium also dominated the opening encounter against Wales and perhaps deserved to be more than 3-0 up at half-time. The Welsh did incredibly well to come back and make it close, but the Belgians were able to keep it together and produce the winner in the end that day too.

I expect Belgium to again generate more xG in this match, they look good to avoid defeat.

Alexis Saelemaekers to have 2+ Shots @ 1.66

We already know that Belgium fired off a lot of shots against North Macedonia. Saelemaekers was a key part of that, with five shots in his 60 minutes on the pitch. He also managed four shots in only 30 minutes against Kazakhstan in Belgium’s previous qualifier.

He hasn't played much for Belgium recently so his sample size isn't a big one, however, this looks to be a relatively low line for Saelemaekers, for a good price if he starts the match. This is also a potentially good use of a substitute bonus, we benefit from bet365's Sub On Play On here if he is to be replaced.

Belgium are highly likely to have a strong volume of shots. They are traditionally big shot takers, averaging 16 shots per match over their last 30 matches, and hitting 25, 35, and 34 in their last three qualifiers.

Neco Williams to Commit 1+ Fouls @ 1.30

The Nottingham Forest full back has the unenviable task of trying to stop Jeremy Doku here.

Williams had a really tough task in the England friendly a few days ago against the Anthony Gordon and Djed Spence combination, which resulted in a yellow card given for a foul on Gordon near the Welsh penalty area.

Williams averages 1.15 fouls per 90 when playing for Wales across the last 30 internationals, excluding friendlies. He has committed at least one foul in his last three starts for Wales, and in six of his last seven starts, as well.

His direct opponent is likely to be Doku. The Man City man is obviously the type of player who commits opponents and drives at them. This encourages fouls, and the stats back that up.

Doku draws 2.73 fouls per 90 for Belgium. It has been 12 competitive matches for Belgium since Doku failed to draw a foul, while in one of these matches, he was fouled on six occasions.

Over 5.5 Belgium Corners @ 1.66

History suggests that this line should be well within reach for this fixture.

Firstly, Belgium’s average is 7.23 corners per match over their last 30 international matches. This covers a lot of different scenarios in terms of qualifiers, finals matches, and friendlies as well, against a variety of opponents - removing friendlies actually improves their corner average to 7.7 per competitive match.

Secondly, their most recent matches add to the strength of the bet. Their last six matches read 13 (corners won), 11, 10, 7 (v Wales in Belgium), 10, and 10, so they have absolutely smashed this line on each occasion, including the return leg of this fixture.

Wales’ average corners against over their last 30 matches is 4.88. They conceded eight corners against England last time out, and six against Kazakhstan too.

It is true that Wales rarely concede this many corners at home in competitive internationals. However, the closest that Wales have had to host in terms of Belgium’s ranking is probably Croatia back in October last year, where they conceded five corners.

📈 Wales v Belgium Form & Tactics

Wales are currently ranked #30 in the FIFA rankings. They were as high as #8 in 2015, but 30 is still a good historical ranking for the principality, especially considering their nadir of 117th place in the rankings.

Wales have recent major tournament experience. They have qualified for the last World Cup in 2022, and Euro 2016 and 2020, and this qualification campaign has only seen them lose in Belgium. Three wins and a draw in North Macedonia has Wales positioned third in the group, but with qualification still in their own hands, with this game and a home match v North Macedonia set to decide Wales’ fate.

Two consecutive friendly defeats to Canada and England shouldn't have caused too much confidence damage, but they may have slightly taken the shine off a really positive start to Craig Bellamy's reign.

Belgium have been around the top of the FIFA rankings for a good few years now, but as they travel through a regeneration they are currently at #8.

Belgium had a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to North Macedonia on Friday, but they will wonder how they managed to not win, given that they generated 3.2xG from 25 shots, compared to North Macedonia's three shots, totalling 0.06xG.

Belgium are six matches unbeaten since the first leg of the Nations League relegation play-off against Ukraine. They overturned this deficit to stay in the top tier of the Nations League, and they have rattled in 20 goals in the six games since - including four against Wales in the return leg.

📔 Wales v Belgium Formation & Team News

Craig Bellamy went for a 4-2-3-1 against England and this has been the most regular choice for Bellamy as head coach.

However, he went for a 5-4-1 in Belgium and has been fairly versatile with his shape. I suspect we will see some variation of three at the back here, but Bellamy won't want to sacrifice too much attacking potential as he knows the value of a result here.

Belgium will look to dominate with a 4-2-3-1 formation. They certainly generated enough chances to win two games without managing to score on Friday night in their 4-3-3 shape, but they will probably pay Wales some respect by having more solidity in midfield.
