Rangers will begin life under new manager Danny Rohl with an away game at Brann in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

The Light Blues’ tumultuous early-season period culminated in the inevitable departure of Russell Martin, who has now been replaced by former Sheffield Wednesday boss Rohl.

The young German is tasked with turning around the fortunes of a Rangers side that is languishing in 6th place in the Scottish Premiership and without any points in this season’s Europa League.

Brann, on the other hand, already have three points on the board after defeating FC Utrecht on matchday two.

4 Selections @ 4.00

Both Teams to Score @ 1.61

Look for both teams to get on the scoresheet at the Brann Stadion on Thursday evening. That has been a recurring theme at this venue this season, with each team obliging in eight of Brann’s 12 Norwegian Eliteserien matches in front of their own supporters this term. That sample includes Brann’s 4-1 win over bottom-of-the-table Haugesund last weekend.

What’s more, there were goals at both ends during Brann’s matchday one clash away at Lille in this season’s Europa League. On top of all that, a bet on BTTS would have paid out in each leg of the Reds’ Champions League qualifier with RB Salzburg earlier this season.

Meanwhile, both teams hit the back of the net in Rangers’ most recent Europa League away day at Sturm Graz. The Light Blues have also delivered a winning BTTS selection in each of their last three Scottish Premiership matches, including a 2-2 draw with Dundee United last time out.

Given that Rangers have yet to pick up any points in this season’s Europa League, they will have to try and force the issue in Norway, so I think there is plenty of scope for an entertaining encounter on Thursday evening.

Over 8.5 Corners @ 1.28

Given that both of these teams have been strong corner performers this season, I think the pair can combine to deliver over 8.5 corners.

Brann have averaged a shade over seven corners per game in this season’s Norwegian Eliteserien, with that figure edging towards 8.00 per 90 when the Reds are going about their business at their Bergen base. It’s also worth noting that Brann’s recent Europa League clash away at Lille produced a sizeable match corner count of 15, further strengthening the case for Thursday's showdown with Rangers to break the over 8.5 barrier.

The Glasgow giants won the corner battle 7-3 when losing 2-1 away at Sturm Graz at the start of the month. Moreover, each of Rangers’ eight matches in this season’s Scottish Premiership have featured at least nine corners, with the Light Blues earning more flag kicks than their opponents in the majority of those fixtures.

Djeidi Gassama Over 0.5 Shots on Target @ 1.40

The performances of Djeidi Gassama have been one of the few positives during what has been a troubled start to the season for Rangers, and he should continue to be a key player moving forward, given that he will be working under Danny Rohl again.

The Gers winger has netted a respectable five goals across his 17 appearances this term, delivering each of those five strikes when on continental duty. As such, Gassama looks well worthy of support to hit the target at least once against Brann on Thursday evening.

The 22-year-old registered two on-target efforts against Genk on matchday one, while he made the net bulge with one of his two shots on goal against Sturm Graz earlier this month.

While Gassama has yet to score in this season’s Scottish Premiership, it’s not been for the want of trying. The former Sheffield Wednesday man has worked the opposition goalkeeper once or more in five of his eight outings in this season’s Scottish top-flight.

Nicolas Raskin Over 0.5 Shots @ 1.50

Nicolas Raskin looks overpriced to attempt a minimum of one shot on Thursday evening. The all-action Belgian is the very definition of a box-to-box midfielder, often arriving late in the final third to get on the end of goalscoring opportunities. What’s more, the Rangers talisman also offers an aerial threat from set-piece situations - something that he demonstrated when scoring against Hibernian in a recent Scottish League Cup quarter-final tie.

Raskin has averaged 1.76 shots per game in this season’s Scottish Premiership, registering multiple attempts in two of the five matches that he has started. The 24-year-old also racked up three shots on goal during Rangers’ 2-1 defeat away at Sturm Graz on matchday two.

It’s also worth pointing out that Raskin has drawn plenty of plaudits for his performances when on international duty in recent times. Moreover, Raskin has posted a combined total of six shots across his four starts for Belgium in the current World Cup qualifying campaign.

📈 Brann v Rangers Form & Tactics

Brann still stand a chance of winning the Eliteserien as the season heads towards a dramatic climax. The Bergen-based club are currently in a three-way battle with Bodo/Glimt and Viking for this season’s Norwegian title. Having won four of their last five league matches, Freyr Alexandersson’s side are making a strong fist of trying to secure what would be the club’s first top-tier crown since 2007.

After being soundly beaten by RB Salzburg in the second round of Champions League qualifiers, Brann got the better of both Hacken and AEK Larnaca to reach the league phase of the Europa League. The Reds put up a spirited display when losing 2-1 away at Lille on matchday one before bouncing back with a 1-0 win over Utrecht.

Brann have been one of the most entertaining teams to follow in this season’s Norwegian top-flight, with 18 of their 24 matches to date producing over 2.5 goals.

Rangers have had a nightmare season so far, winning just one of their opening eight Scottish Premiership matches of the campaign. Six of those contests have ended all square, the most recent of which was a 2-2 draw with Dundee United at Ibrox last Saturday. That latest stalemate has left the Glasgow giants 13 points behind league leaders Hearts and eight points adrift of arch-rivals Celtic.

To make matters worse, Rangers have come away empty-handed from each of their opening two Europa League games of the season, losing to both Gent and Sturm Graz.

Three of Rangers’ eight continental contests this term have featured a red card, with the Ibrox outfit having a man sent off in two of their last three outings in Europe.

Rangers have averaged almost eight corners per game in this season’s Scottish Premiership.

📔 Brann v Rangers Formation & Team News

Freyr Alexandersson likes his team to play on the front foot, typically setting his side up with an attack-minded 4-3-3 formation.

Neither Niklas Jensen Wassberg nor Sakarias Opsahl are expected to return from injury for this week’s visit from Rangers. The hosts are also sweating over the fitness of Saevar Atli Magnusson, who missed Sunday’s 4-1 win over Haugesund. The Icelandic forward has scored each of Brann’s 2 goals in this season’s Europa League.

It will be interesting to see how Danny Rohl approaches his first game in charge of Rangers. Rohl made use of different formations during his time at Sheffield Wednesday, including 4-2-3-1 and 3-4-3 systems, with the former often his preferred choice.

Dujon Sterling is closing in on a return to first-team action following a lengthy spell on the sidelines but he won’t play any part in Norway having been left out of Rangers’ Europa League squad alongside Kieran Dowell, Nedim Bajrami, and Rabbi Matondo.
