Brentford welcome Arsenal with the Gunners looking over their shoulder a little after City’s historic win at Anfield, reigniting a title race that many thought was starting to drift towards North London.
The Bees are enjoying an excellent season themselves under Keith Andrews, and have a superb home record, which could make this an awkward assignment for the Gunners.

📂 Brentford v Arsenal Cheat Sheet
📈 Brentford v Arsenal Form & Tactics
Brentford have enjoyed a really strong season so far, to the surprise of many - including myself. I had them as one of my relegation candidates early on in the season, but I have to give credit to Keith Andrews and the club for proving me wrong. The scale of Brentford’s achievement shouldn’t be underestimated. They lost their long-term manager, captain, and two main goalscorers over the summer and have still managed to rise to seventh in the table.
Brentford’s home form has been the main driving force behind their success this season. The Bees have only lost two of their 12 games at home this season, and it’s not like they’ve drawn most of these matches either, with seven ending in all three points for Keith Andrews’ side. Brentford are also quite secure at the back when playing at the Gtech Community Stadium, conceding just 12 goals across their 12 home matches - only four sides have a better defensive record in the Premier League this season.
Arsenal have responded well to their low period a few weeks ago, which came to a head in their 3-2 defeat to Manchester United at the Emirates - their only defeat at home all season in any competition. Arsenal have won their four matches across all competitions since that defeat, but crucially, have Manchester City breathing down their necks following their historic win over Liverpool at Anfield over the weekend.
Arsenal have been pretty strong on the road this season, winning seven of their 12 games away from home - the best away record in the division. Arsenal have only lost two of these games, with these defeats coming against Liverpool and Aston Villa. Arteta's side have also only conceded nine goals across these matches, so they retain their defensive resilience and organisation when on their travels in the Premier League.
📔 Brentford v Arsenal Formation & Team News
Brentford have lined up in a variety of shapes and systems this season, but should persist with their 4-2-3-1 shape, which has worked well for Keith Andrews in both of their recent high-profile away wins against Aston Villa and Newcastle. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Brentford set up with a back five either, with Schade and Thiago spearheading this setup.
Arsenal will line up in a 4-2-3-1 on paper, but they rarely stay in this structure. Arteta has instructed his side to build with a three, allowing one or both of the fullbacks to roam with Zubimendi dropping back between Gabriel and Saliba. Riccardo Calafiori is particularly exceptional in this role, and Arsenal have missed his influence in the side while he’s been out with injury - though he is expected to return to the starting lineup for this clash.
Arsenal are expected to be without three key players for this clash, which could end up costing them crucial points. Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, and Mikel Merino are all expected to be sidelined here, giving Arteta a bit of a headache as to how to set up his side to ensure that Arsenal aren’t blunt from open play, which has been a common occurrence for the Gunners this season.
