Wolves welcome Brighton, having earned their first point of the season last time out against Tottenham. Vitor Pereira’s side have had success in the Carabao Cup with home wins over West Ham and Everton.

Brighton come into this clash having won three of their last five matches across all competitions. These games have produced plenty of goals, with four of them seeing both teams score.

These recommended Best Bet Builder Bookmakers are worth a look for the weekend's Premier League action.

Over 1.5 Goals

Brighton have seen 2+ goals in each of their last five matches across all competitions. The Seagulls’ last five games have produced 20 goals in total (4.0 per game), which indicates that we should get more goals in this Sunday afternoon clash.

Wolves have seen 2+ goals in four of their last five outings, with the exception being their 1-0 defeat against Newcastle away from home, which was a game that saw a combined xG of 2.05.

Both head-to-head meetings between the sides last season produced 2+ goals, with Brighton coming away 2-0 winners at Molineux and the sides sharing a point in a 2-2 draw at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton’s away games produced 69 goals last season (3.63 per game) whilst Wolves’ home games were also goal-heavy with 59 goals across their 19 matches (3.10 per game).

Over 1.5 Wolves Cards

Wolves have picked up 12 yellow cards across their six Premier League games this season (2.0 per game). They averaged 1.97 cards per game across their 38 Premier League matches last season, with Wolves collecting three cards in their 2-2 draw against Brighton last season.

Brighton have drawn 2+ cards from their opponents in each of their six Premier League matches this season. Their opponents have picked up at least three cards in four of these games, so there is a chance that Wolves could end up with an even higher card total here, given Brighton’s proficiency when it comes to drawing them from the opposition.

Brighton’s opponents have also entered double digits for fouls in four of these games. Wolves’ foul average currently sits at 13.8 this season, which would suggest that the home side will rack up the foul count here and test the patience of Jarred Gillett, who is the referee for this game.

Jorgen Strand Larsen to have 1+ Shots on Target

Larsen is one of Wolves’ most reliable players in the final third, and he’ll have to get close to his tally of 14 Premier League goals from last season if Wolves are going to survive in the Premier League this term.

He’s had seven shots across his 289 minutes of Premier League football so far this season (2.18 per 90) with three of these attempts finding the target (0.93 per 90).

He had 54 shots across his 35 appearances in the top flight last season (1.87 per 90) with 63% of his attempts finding the target (1.16 per 90). 41% of the total shots on target that Strand Larsen had last season ended up in the back of the net.

Strand Larsen didn’t start in this fixture last season as Brighton recorded a 2-0 win at Molineux, but did start in Wolves’ 2-2 draw with the Seagulls and had two shots on target.

Ladislav Krejci to Commit 1+ Fouls

Krejci is a very aggressive player. He suits Wolves perfectly in this sense as the Wanderers tend to be quite a combative side - only Bournemouth committed more fouls than Vitor Pereira’s side last season, and they’ve started this campaign with a foul average of 13.8 fouls committed per game, the third highest in the division.

I first came across Krejci when watching one of Girona’s games against Villarreal last season. They lost the game 1-0, and Krejci was shown a yellow card, but he was fortunate not to be sent off for his challenge. This was one of 10 yellow cards that Krejci received last season, whilst averaging 0.89 fouls committed per 90.

The 26-year-old has already received his first yellow card of this campaign, having been booked against Newcastle a few weeks ago. He committed two fouls that came and followed that up by committing five fouls in Wolves’ 3-1 defeat to Leeds.

Over 1.5 Brighton Goals

Wolves have conceded 13 goals across their six Premier League matches this season (2.16 per game). Only West Ham (14) have conceded more goals than the Wanderers, who have found it difficult to get results due to this record. They’re still searching for their first Premier League win of the season, with their only victories so far coming in the Carabao Cup.

Brighton have scored 2+ goals in each of their last three matches across all competitions, with two of these games being against Tottenham and Chelsea. Fabian Hurzeler’s side scored 2+ goals against Wolves in both head-to-head meetings between the sides last season and can repeat the feat here, with Wolves really struggling for defensive organisation.

Wolves have conceded 2+ goals in three of their last five matches, and 10 of the 13 goals they’ve conceded this season have been in home matches. Unsurprisingly, Wolves have lost all three of these games, so the atmosphere at Molineux could quickly turn sour if Wolves can’t get a foothold in this game.

Yankuba Minteh to Score or Assist

Minteh continues to impress in a Brighton shirt. I watched him closely in Brighton’s 3-1 win over Chelsea last time out and thought he was the best player, even before the Blues were reduced to 10 men.

He got the assist for Welbeck’s equaliser, and what was particularly impressive about the 21-year-old’s performance is that he played on both wings in the game and worked relentlessly when Brighton were without the ball.

Minteh has already registered three goal contributions across his six Premier League appearances for Brighton so far this season (1 goal, 2 assists) and can continue to be a threat here against a Wolves side that have conceded the second most goals in the Premier League this season (13).

Minteh registered 10 goal contributions for Brighton last season across his 20 starts for the club, and I think he’ll be able to better that tally this term with the added maturity that the winger has shown in the early weeks of the campaign.

Carlos Baleba to be Shown a Card

Carlos Baleba has committed 10 fouls across his six Premier League appearances this season (2.90 per 90), with this record producing one card for the talented 21-year-old.

He’ll be in a real scrap here with a Wolves midfield that is likely to include Joao Gomes and Andre - two of the most combative players in the Premier League. Baleba picked up six yellow cards and one red card last season across his 34 Premier League appearances, whilst averaging 1.35 fouls committed per 90.

Brighton have collected more cards than any other Premier League team this season (18 - 3.0 per game). Their games have also produced the most cards of any side this season, with the Seagulls drawing 2+ cards from their opponents in each of their six matches so far this term, meaning that Jarred Gillett should have a busy afternoon here.

📈 Wolves v Brighton Form & Tactics

Wolves earned their first point of the season last time out against Tottenham, though that draw will have felt like a loss with the Lilywhites equalising in the closing stages through Joao Palhinha. Wolves have lost four of their five games so far this season, and have notably been very poor at home, conceding 10 goals across three matches and only scoring three themselves.

The issue that Vitor Pereira has is that his squad lacks any identity. When I look at this Wolves side, it looks like a bunch of poorly assembled players jammed into awkward positions. I think Wolves panicked at the end of the transfer window, having seen how effective the newly promoted sides had been in the market, and the result is a very disorganised squad that has little to no chemistry.

Brighton usually start the season well, but have made a slightly more laboured start to the campaign this time around. Both of their defeats so far this season have come on the road, so that is a record that Fabian Hurzeler will be looking to correct here. They enter this game having lost just one of their last five outings, so they should have more confidence than the home side.

Brighton avoided defeat in both head-to-head clashes against Wolves last season. They came away 2-0 winners at Molineux, and the sides shared a point at the Amex Stadium in the form of a 2-2 draw. Brighton’s away games produced plenty of goals last season (69 - 3.63 per game), so their away fixtures tend to be quite entertaining.

📔 Wolves v Brighton Formation & Team News

Vitor Pereira changed Wolves’ shape against Tottenham last time out, with the Wanderers switching to a 4-2-3-1 having played in a 3-4-3 for the majority of Pereira’s tenure at the club. The 3-4-3 really wasn’t working, but it’s not really the system that is an issue for Wolves.

Wolves lost Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri over the summer; this duo accounted for 59% of the goals that Wolves scored in the Premier League last season. It’s no surprise that Wolves are the joint lowest scorers in the Premier League so far this season (4), having lost these two crucial players.

Brighton usually line up in a 4-2-3-1 with a focus on platforming their wide players in Mitoma and Minteh as often as possible. Hurzeler tinkers with his team a lot and isn’t afraid to change systems in the game. One of his favoured tactical ploys is to introduce Mats Wieffer as an inverted fullback, offering the Seagulls an extra body in the middle of the park, which could be invaluable here given Wolves’ tendency to block out the middle third of the pitch.

📊 Wolves v Brighton Key Stats

  • Wolves are yet to win a game in the Premier League this season.

  • Brighton have lost two of their three away games this season.

  • Wolves are the joint lowest scorers in the Premier League (4).

  • Brighton have picked up 18 cards across their opening six Premier League matches - the most of any side in the division.
