Bukayo Saka to have 1+ Shots on Target

Saka came off the bench to score Arsenal’s second goal in their 2-0 win over Brighton during the week in the EFL Cup. He had two shots in the 19 minutes he was on the pitch with the victory marking Arsenal’s eighth consecutive victory across all competitions.

The most impressive aspect of this recent run is that Arsenal have won seven of these games to nil with only Newcastle managing to score against them in this period. This game should also be dominated by Arsenal with Burnley expected to sit in a low block for much of the encounter.

This should give Saka opportunities to find the target. He’s had 12 shots across his seven appearances in the Premier League this season (2.14 per 90) with four of these attempts finding the target (0.71 per 90). This record has returned two goals for Saka in the Premier League as he looks to improve on the six goals he managed last season, a tally achieved whilst averaging 1.19 shots on target per 90.

Luis Fiorentino to Commit 2+ Fouls

Luis Fiorentino has committed a foul in each of his last five Premier League appearances, with three of these games seeing him commit multiple fouls. This takes his tally for the season to nine fouls across his six Premier League appearances for the Clarets (1.70 per 90).

Fiorentino committed 36 fouls across his 26 appearances for Benfica in Liga Portugal last season (1.64 per 90) so he is a player that can regularly produce high foul counts and should be tested here by Eberechi Eze who has made a really bright start to his Arsenal career.

Eze has won six fouls across his six Premier League starts for the Gunners so far (0.99 per 90) but we can expect this average to rise seeing as Eze won 51 fouls across his 34 Premier League appearances last season (1.77 per 90).

Arsenal to Win

Arsenal have won seven of their nine games in the Premier League this season and are currently on a winning run spanning eight matches across all competitions, winning seven of these games to nil. Scoring against this Arsenal side is a near impossible task with the Gunners only conceding three goals so far this season - by far the best defensive record in the Premier League.

Arsenal have won three of their four away games this season with the only exception being their 1-0 loss against Liverpool back in the early weeks of the season. Arsenal only lost that game because of a 30 yard free kick and that’s the kind of standard that Arsenal have set if you want to score against them, unless you have players capable of special moments then you won’t get many chances against this version of Arsenal.

Burnley are clear outsiders here and will struggle to match the quality and control that Arsenal have. Burnley have managed to win three of their nine matches in the Premier League so far, but these wins have all come against sides that are also expected to be in the relegation debate at the end of the season.

Arsenal 7+ Corners

Arsenal have won 67 corners across their nine Premier League games this season (7.44 per game) - more than any other side in the division. This metric actually increases to 8.50 corners per game when looking at their away matches, so we can expect Arsenal to continue to use set pieces as an avenue to unlock stubborn defensive sides.

Burnley are conceding 6.50 corners per game in their matches at Turf Moor this season which is a promising metric for Arsenal to extend here. Set pieces are such a crucial part of Arsenal’s success under Mikel Arteta, the delivery they have through Declan Rice is unmatched in the Premier League with aerial threats like Gabriel and Saliba often profiting from this impressive delivery.

Nine of Arsenal’s 16 goals in the Premier League this season have come from set pieces (56%). This could be deemed an overreliance, but right now it is a real strength for Arsenal and could prove pivotal to them coming away with all three points here with Burnley proving stubborn in their games at Turf Moor so far this season.

📈 Burnley v Arsenal Form & Tactics

Two of Burnley’s three wins in the Premier League so far this season have come at Turf Moor. It’s essential that Burnley pick up as many points as possible at home to be in with a decent chance of survival this season. Their wins so far have come against the teams around them - Leeds, Sunderland and Wolves - but I’d anticipate Burnley needing the odd positive result against some of the sides in the top half of the table if they are to survive this season.

Burnley sit in a really deep block but this hasn’t been as effective as it was in the Championship. Burnley only conceded 16 goals across the entirety of the Championship campaign last season but have already conceded 17 goals across nine games in the Premier League. This highlights the real step in quality between the two divisions and how difficult it can be to adapt to the demands of the Premier League.

This version of Arsenal is the most complete we’ve seen under Mikel Arteta with the Gunners currently on an eight game winning streak and having the best chance they’ve possibly ever had to win the Premier League. The main strength with Arsenal this season is that there isn’t a single weakness in the side, there’s two players for every position and talent throughout the squad which can be called upon when there are injuries or absences.

This was displayed by Arsenal in their 2-0 win over Brighton in the EFL Cup during the week. Arteta heavily rotated in the game and still saw his side come away comfortably against a stronger Brighton outfit.

📔 Burnley v Arsenal Formation & Team News

Burnley are likely to line up in a 5-4-1 here. Parker has experimented with a few different shapes, but this seems to be the preferred one when lining up against the elite sides in the Premier League. There won’t be too many surprises from Burnley here in terms of how they set up, their defensive line is one of the deepest in the Premier League and will take some time to fully breakdown.

Burnley should go with the same side that earned a 3-2 victory over Wolves last time out with no fresh injury concerns since that encounter. Roberts, Amdouni and Beyer are longer term absentees that won’t be available for Burnley here.

Arsenal line up in a 4-3-3, but the player rotations and tactical instructions means that it never appears that way when Arsenal play. When the Gunners are without the ball, they sit in the most effective mid block I think I’ve ever seen in the Premier League. It’s a 4-4-2 but the work rate of the Arsenal players to close gaps is unrivalled in the Premier League and a massive component of their excellent defensive record.

There have been intriguing set ups from Arteta in some games when Arsenal are with the ball. Against Atletico Madrid, Arsenal were in a 3-4-3 shape when they had the ball with a focus on getting Saka and Martinelli into dangerous inside channels - which is where Arsenal’s second goal came from in that game.
