Cardiff and Blackburn head into this Saturday lunchtime looking to bounce back from midweek league defeats. The Bluebirds failed to their extend six-match unbeaten run when falling narrowly 1-0 away to Luton, but there is still a good degree of positivity around the club despite this, particularly with the players firmly behind the prospect of interim boss Omer Riza becoming their full-time boss.
Rovers, however, are struggling to get out of a slump they now find themselves in. Losing 2-0 at home to Stoke made it three defeats in succession, all without scoring. Before that, they drew 0-0 against West Brom, meaning it is zero goals from four matches.
Despite Cardiff and Blackburn being positioned 21st and 10th respectively, there is only a four-point difference between the two clubs.
⭐ Cardiff v Blackburn Best Bets
Cardiff are the side in stronger from and should therefore be quite aggressive in their approach. They have every right to do so given they have won four in succession at home, plus Blackburn are struggling for goals.
Rubin Colwill has been a big reason for their success since Omer Riza took charge. He has made the number ten position his own. He is a player not afraid to fire shots away at every possible opportunity. In fact, Colwill is ranked first across the Cardiff squad for total shots, with 29. In addition to this, he tops the Bluebirds’ squad for shots on target in league action.
Recently, the young Welshman went on a seven-game run of having at least one shot on target. The average worked out at 1.86 per match in this period, so he is no stranger to working the opposition goalkeeper.

🔍 Cardiff v Blackburn Players to Watch
⚪ Lewis Travis
Lewis Travis has been with the club for 10 years now and his heart is very much all things Blackburn Rovers. The captain has barely missed a kick all season, such is his importance in the eyes of manager John Eustace.
The 27-year-old is ranked joint-second in the squad for yellow cards in league action, whereas he is positioned joint-top concerning the number of fouls committed.
The central midfielder has been very busy recently in terms of attracting the attention of the match referee. Travis has started every league game this season and only in two of those did he fail to commit a foul. However, in five of his previous appearances six he would make at least two – this makes him look great value for a couple of fouls here.

💻 Cardiff v Blackburn Form and Tactics
Cardiff are a team that aren’t necessarily committed to wanting long periods of possession. Throughout the Championship season so far, the Bluebirds have averaged 48.3% of the ball. One way in which the team work the ball forward is specifically utilising their left side. They are ranked fifth in the league for crosses into the box from the left.
Saturday’s home team are enjoying a four-game winning streak in home fixtures. In three of those, they would keep a clean sheet. Aside from these, they’ve kept only one other clean sheet in league action in 2024/25.
The fact they have achieved a PPDA of 13.81, one of the best in the league, suggests Omer Riza is especially keen on making his team effective out of possession through pressing.
Blackburn play a fluid style where they are prepared to mix up their tactics throughout the game. This is proved by the fact that in league action they’ve only averaged 49.5% of the ball across their matches. Rovers are certainly not afraid to get the ball forward quickly on a count of them averaging 45.03 long passes per 90 minutes; which is the fourth highest out of all the Championship clubs.
Although John Eustace’s side are enduring a four-match winless and goalless run, there are still reasons for optimism. Within those encounters they’ve returned xG’s of 2.78, 1.44, 0.89 0.61; meaning they’ve warranted more goals than they’ve actually got.
However, the Ewood Park outfit do possess one of the weaker xGFs in the league with 14.71, meaning they are still overachieving this given they’ve netted 16 league goals.
