Copenhagen and Borussia Dortmund will face off in the Champions League at Parken Stadium on Tuesday night.

Jacob Neestrup’s hosts kicked off their continental campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to Bayer Leverkusen before slumping to a 2-0 loss away at Qarabag on matchday two.

As for Borussia Dortmund, they have four points on the board after following up on their frantic 4-4 draw with Juventus by defeating Athletic Bilbao 4-1.

The German giants will be licking their wounds after losing 2-1 away at rivals Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Dortmund Double Chance

This looks like an ideal time for Borussia Dortmund to head to Copenhagen given the sticky patch that the hosts currently find themselves in. Jacob Neestrup’s side have won just one of their last five matches in the Danish Superliga, with Silkeborg condemning the Lions to their third league defeat of the season on Friday. On top of that, the capital club crashed to a demoralising 2-0 defeat away at Qarabag on matchday two.

That doesn’t bode well ahead of a visit from a Borussia Dortmund side whose only defeat this season so far came at the hands of Bayern Munich last time out. Niko Kovac’s side have scored four goals in each of their two outings in this season’s Champions League, including their away game at Juventus. If the German heavyweights can replicate those performances on Tuesday night, they should come away from the Parken Stadium with a point at the very least.

Both Teams to Score

While I’m not expecting Copenhagen to come out on top on Tuesday night, I think they are more than capable of contributing to the scoring. The Lions are the only team in this season’s Danish Superliga that have scored in all of their matches to date, impressively netting in each of their 12 outings. That has coincided with each team obliging in 10 of the hosts’ 12 Danish top-flight tussles this term. What’s more, Jacob Neestrup’s side have already been involved in an action-packed 2-2 draw with Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen at this venue in this season’s Champions League.

Thus, Copenhagen look well placed to breach a Borussia Dortmund backline that have already conceded five goals in this season’s Champions League, with both teams getting on the scoresheet in each of those two contests. It’s also worth noting that there have been goals at both ends in each of BVB’s last two matches in the Bundesliga.

Serhou Guirassy to have 1+ Shots on Target

Look for Serhou Guirassy to deliver a minimum of one shot on target on Tuesday night. The Borussia Dortmund sharpshooter has averaged 1.54 on-target efforts per game across his two appearances in this season’s Champions League, posting one shot on target against Juventus during the opening round of league phase action before making the net bulge against Athletic Bilbao on matchday two.

Guirassy has also been hitting the target on a consistent basis in this season’s Bundesliga, evidenced by the fact that he is averaging an impressive 2.42 shots on target per 90, racking up four goals across his six appearances.

With that in mind, I would expect Guirassy to hit the target at least once against a Copenhagen team that have looked defensively fragile throughout the opening months of the season. Jacob Neestrup’s team gave up six shots on target away at Qarabag on matchday two, further suggesting that Guirassy should get ample opportunity to work the Copenhagen goalkeeper during this contest.

Lukas Lerager to Commit 2+ Fouls

Lukas Lerager is the one to watch from a fouls perspective in this game. The Copenhagen midfielder has been a frequent offender this season, and I would expect his combative streak to be on show during this contest, given the calibre of opposition that he will be up against.

Lerager has averaged a sizeable 2.42 fouls per game in this season’s Danish Superliga, tackling his way into the referee’s notebook during Copenhagen’s recent home game with FC Midtjylland.

The experienced midfielder was also shown a yellow card during a Champions League qualifier with FC Basel earlier this season, while he was guilty of one foul against Qarabag on matchday two.

The 32-year-old is likely to come up against Felix Nmecha on Tuesday night. The BVB midfielder has drawn an average of 0.97 fouls per 90 in this season’s Bundesliga, being brought down once during Saturday’s 2-1 loss away at Bayern Munich.

📈 Copenhagen v Dortmund Form & Tactics

Copenhagen’s preparations for this clash were far from ideal, with Jacob Neestrup’s side crashing to a 3-1 loss away at Silkeborg in the Danish Superliga on Friday night. That setback means the Lions have won just one of their last five matches in the Danish top-flight. It’s also worth noting that Copenhagen have won just one of their five league games at home this season, failing to triumph in each of their last four.

Copenhagen have been leaking goals at an alarming rate this term, conceding 18 times across their opening 12 Danish SuperLiga matches of the season. As mentioned, the hosts have also shipped multiple goals in each of their two outings in this season’s Champions League.

Interestingly, no team has committed more fouls (34) than Copenhagen across the opening two rounds of action in this season’s Champions League.

Borussia Dortmund suffered their first defeat of the season when going down 2-1 at Bayern Munich on Saturday. There is no shame in losing to a team of that quality, and Niko Kovac and his players will be confident about their chances of bouncing back in the Danish capital on Tuesday night.

BVB currently sit 4th in the Bundesliga table, winning four of their opening seven league games of the season.

The German giants will be frustrated not to have collected maximum points from their two Champions League matches this season after blowing a 4-2 lead in the dying embers of their 4-4 draw away at Juventus. Kovac’s side produced arguably their best performance of the season on matchday two by brilliantly dismantling Athletic Bilbao 4-1 at Signal Iduna Park.

Having racked up four strikes in each of their two Champions League games this season, Borussia Dortmund have scored a joint-high eight goals in this season’s competition.

📔 Copenhagen v Dortmund Formation & Team News

Jacob Neestrup typically sets his side up in a 4-4-2 formation, with a huge emphasis on retaining possession and pressing high up the park when without the ball.

After shuffling his pack against Silkeborg, Neestrup will almost certainly revert back to his strongest starting XI on Tuesday night. However, the Copenhagen boss looks set to be without Andreas Cornelius, Jonathan Moalem, Magnus Mattsson, Oliver Hojer and Rodrigo Huescas while both Mohamed Elyounoussi and Thomas Delaney are rated as doubtful.

Borussia Dortmund boss Niko Kovac has frequently deployed a 3-4-2-1 formation this season, though it can also resemble a 3-5-2 system at times. The BVB boss favours a high-pressing style with his team also encouraged to retain their structure.

As was the case against Bayern Munich on Saturday, Dortmund will again be without injured trio Aaron Anselmino, Emre Can and Julien Duranville.

Star striker Serhou Guirassy shrugged off a thigh injury to lead the line against Bayern Munich so he should be fit enough to spearhead the visitors’ attack again here..
