When not crunching the numbers and analysing the stats, Grant can often be found following his beloved Falkirk up and down the country.

Dundee and Rangers will square off in the Scottish Premiership at Dens Park on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts have fallen into the relegation play-off zone after suffering back-to-back defeats against Falkirk and Hearts.

As for 4th-placed Rangers, they will be targeting a 3rd straight victory in the Scottish Premiership under Danny Rohl after the new Gers boss steered his side to wins over both Kilmarnock and Hibernian.

However, since then, the Light Blues have fallen to a Scottish League Cup semi-final defeat against Celtic before losing 2-0 against Roma in the Europa League last time out.

Our Football Match Stats, including Hearts v Dundee United, offer further insight.

4 Selections @ 3.10

Rangers to Win @ 1.44

While Rangers continue to be untrustworthy, I think they will have enough in their locker to edge out Dundee at Dens Park on Sunday. The Light Blues have shown some signs of improvement in their last two Scottish Premiership matches to post wins over both Kilmarnock and Hibernian, while they also held Celtic to a 1-1 draw inside 90 minutes last Sunday despite receiving a first-half red card. If Rohl’s side can replicate those efforts here, then I think they will secure a low-key success at Dens Park on Sunday.

Yes, Dundee toppled Celtic in their last home game, but I think that may go against the hosts here as that triumph will have removed the surprise factor. What’s more, the Dark Blues have lost a joint league-high six of their 11 Scottish Premiership matches this season, including four of their last five.

With so much ground to make up on Hearts, as well as being five points adrift of Celtic, Rangers can ill-afford another stumble here. After battling their way to a hard-earned and frankly ugly win at Easter Road last midweek, I think a similar type of road success could be on the cards for Rangers on Sunday.

Over 2.5 Cards @ 1.21

While I think Rangers will do enough to get the job done on Sunday, I suspect this contest could be closer than the pre-match odds suggest. That should be conducive to some cards being handed out, with three or more representing a solid selection.

Dundee’s Scottish Premiership matches this season have generated an average of 3.37 cards per game, with all bar one of their five home games featuring less than three bookings.

As for Rangers, there has been a spike in the number of cards that they have been collecting this season, something that can be attributed to the visitors’ top-flight matches averaging 4.10 cards per 90 this term. In fact, three or more cards have been flashed in each of the Light Blues’ 10 Scottish Premiership assignments this season, with three yellows and 1 red handed out during this season’s reverse fixture with Dundee.

It’s also worth mentioning that Rangers were involved in a bad-tempered Old Firm clash with Celtic last Sunday, which included seven cautions and one sending off.

On top of all that, referee Matthew MacDermid has averaged 4.00 yellow cards per game in the Scottish top-flight this season.

Over 8.5 Corners @ 1.27

Look for Sunday’s clash between Dundee and Rangers to deliver over 8.5 corners. As tends to be the case, Rangers have been prolific on the flag kick front in the Scottish Premiership this season, averaging in the region of 7.50 team corners per game. That has coincided with the Light Blues’ opening 11 league matches of the season, yielding an average of just under 11 corners per game.

I think there is a strong possibility that Rangers will have to work hard to break down Dundee’s defence on Sunday, and that only adds to the appeal of siding with this selection. What’s more, the struggling hosts have conceded an average just shy of seven corners per 90 in the Scottish top-flight this term.

However, Steven Pressley’s side should also be capable of contributing to the corner count here, albeit to a lesser extent than that of their Glasgow guests. The Dark Blues earned four of the overall 11 corners that were taken when they went up against Rangers at Ibrox in August, while they chipped in with a couple of the 14 flag kicks that were hit when they faced Celtic at Dens Park last month.

James Tavenier to Score or Assist @ 1.72

While James Tavernier has been a much-maligned figure among his own fans over the years, he has also been the man of the moment on a number of occasions, racking up strikes at the rate of a forward rather than a defender. Tavernier’s set-pieces have long been a valuable weapon during his time at Rangers, while he is also reliable when it comes to converting penalty kicks.

That has continued to be the case this season, with the Rangers skipper netting his 6th goal of the campaign against Celtic last Sunday. That latest strike means that Tavernier has made the net bulge in 3 of his last six domestic appearances for Rangers, while he has also chipped in with two assists this term - one of which came against Kilmarnock in what was Danny Rohl’s first league game in charge of Rangers.

With that in mind, Tavernier looks well worthy of support to register another goal involvement when faced with a Dundee side that he scored against earlier this season. The touch of insurance that SBK’s Fresh Legs feature will provide offers added incentive with this particular player-based selection.

📈 Dundee v Rangers Form & Stats

After producing their best performance of the season with a 2-0 home win over Celtic last month, Dundee have since lost 2-1 away at Falkirk before being crushed 4-0 by Hearts in the capital last weekend. That means the Dark Blues have lost four of their last five Scottish Premiership matches, sliding into the relegation play-off spot as a consequence.

Dundee have failed to score in five of their 11 Scottish Premiership matches this season, mustering up a combined total of just nine goals across their opening 11 matches of the campaign. Steven Pressley’s side have also struggled for clean sheets this term, silencing their opponents in just two of their 11 Scottish top-flight fixtures to date.

Impressively, four of Dundee’s nine points in this season’s Scottish Premiership have been secured against Old Firm opposition, including a 1-1 draw with Rangers at Ibrox back in August.

Danny Rohl has had a mixed start to life in charge of Rangers, with two wins and three losses thus far. Each of those two wins have come in the Scottish Premiership, with Rangers defeating Kilmarnock 3-1 before battling their way to a 1-0 win at Hibernian.

While 10-man Rangers produced a spirited second-half showing to take last week’s Scottish League Cup semi-final tie with Celtic to extra-time, they ultimately succumbed to a 3-1 defeat. The Gers have since been completely outclassed by Roma, with the Italian giants claiming a comfortable 2–0 win at Ibrox on Thursday night.

Rangers’ vulnerability when it comes to defending set-pieces is becoming more pronounced every time they take to the field, so it’s an area of weakness that Dundee will look to exploit.

Rangers received their 4th red card of the season against Celtic last weekend, with their other domestic dismissal this term coming against Dundee.

📔 Dundee v Rangers Formation & Team News

Dundee have set up in a 3-4-3 formation in recent weeks, though it often resembles a 5-4-1 system when out of possession. The Dark Blues are likely to sit deep and try to hit Rangers on the break as they did with devastating effect when defeating Celtic 2-0 in their last home game.

Dundee could have a fully fit squad for their hosting of Rangers, however Pressley may look to make changes to his starting XI following last week’s 4-0 hammering from Hearts. Luke Graham is pushing for a recall in central defence where both Ryan Astley and Clark Robertson are likely to continue.

Danny Rohl has made use of variations of a 3-4-3 formation since taking over at Ibrox last month. While it’s a small sample size, Rangers have looked re-energised and have played with a higher tempo under their new manager.

Rangers boss Rohl made four changes to his starting XI for the visit of Roma on Thursday night, and he is expected to shuffle his pack again at Dens Park, with both Danilo and Derek Cornelius looking like strong candidates to come back into the side. Dujon Sterling, Kieran Dowell and Rabbi Matondo remain sidelined through injury.
