Liverpool v Everton
Kick Off: Wednesday 2nd April at 20:00
Liverpool host Everton in the next step of their title charge, with the Reds boasting a nine point lead at the top of the table as we head into the final nine games of the season. Liverpool have faltered slightly in other competitions as we reach a pivotal point in the campaign, crashing out of the Champions League to PSG on penalties and then losing to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final. They’ve had the international break to recover from these disappointments, but a Merseyside Derby won’t be the most welcome fixture following these cup exits.
David Moyes has steadied this Everton side who have moved well points clear of the relegation zone. There isn’t much for Everton to fight for in the Premier League, so they’ll be contesting this derby on pride alone, but this proved effective in the clash at Goodison Park in which James Tarkowski fired home a last-minute equaliser.
⭐ Liverpool v Everton Best Bet
James Tarkowski stole the show in the initial meeting between these sides by scoring a 98th-minute equaliser, imprinting a lasting memory of the last Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park. As well as providing this relief for the Toffees, Tarkowski was involved in eight duels, drawing three fouls in the process - more than any other player on the pitch.
We can naturally expect the foul averages of these sides to increase here when factoring in the intensity that a derby brings, this proved true in the meeting at Goodison Park, which saw Liverpool commit 20 fouls. This is a notable increase on their 11.6 fouls committed per game in the Premier League, which still stands out and points to Slot’s approach without the ball which sees Liverpool press with intensity high up the pitch.
Tarkowski is averaging 0.76 fouls won per 90 across his 29 Premier League appearances this season, which is a really promising average for a centre back. He’s set to line up against Luis Diaz in a battle that has plenty of unfinished business. Diaz committed six fouls in the encounter at Goodison Park and is averaging 2.03 fouls committed per 90 across his 28 Premier League appearances.

🔍 Liverpool v Everton Players to Watch
🔴 Mohamed Salah
Mohamed Salah scored his customary goal against Everton in the meeting at Goodison Park and also provided an assist. He had two shots on target in that game despite Liverpool posting their lowest shot total of the season (6).
He’s averaging 1.92 shots on target per 90 across his 29 Premier League appearances this season, Liverpool should be able to generate more chances at Anfield against the Toffees. Arne Slot’s side boast the best home record in the Premier League, winning 11 of their 14 games at home and scoring 31 goals in the process.
🔴 Andy Robertson
Andy Robertson committed a foul and was shown a yellow card in the initial meeting between these sides at Goodison Park. He’s only averaging 0.44 fouls committed per 90 which isn't a standout average, but he tends to be up for these derby games.
He’s set to line up against Jack Harrison who is averaging 1.19 fouls won per 90 across his 25 Premier League appearances this campaign and will test Robertson when Everton are able to stretch the game.
Robertson is part of a Liverpool side that is averaging 11.6 fouls committed per game and committed 20 fouls in the meeting between the sides at Goodison Park.
