Flamengo v Bayern Munich
Kick Off: Sunday 29th June at 21:00
Competition: FIFA Club World Cup
One of the more intriguing round of 16 ties at the Club World Cup sees Flamengo take on Bayern Munich, with Vincent Kompany’s side needing to be wary of the Brazilians following their impressive group stage campaign. Flamengo managed to top their group ahead of Chelsea, beating the Blues 3-1 when they faced off.
Bayern finished second in their group behind Benfica, with a 1-0 defeat against the Portuguese side in their final game condemning the Bundesliga champions to a tougher side of the draw - the winner of this round of 16 clash will set up a quarter-final against either PSG or Inter Miami.

⭐ Flamengo v Bayern Munich Best Bets
Michael Olise has enjoyed an excellent debut season for Bayern Munich after making the move from Crystal Palace last summer. He still isn’t quite getting the plaudits he deserves for his performances for Bayern, especially when considering that this was his first season in the Champions League and at one of the most prestigious clubs in world football.
Olise has registered five goal contributions across his three appearances at the Club World Cup (3 goals, 2 assists). Four of these did come against Auckland as Bayern ran out 10-0 winners, but he also scored against Boca Juniors and was bright in the 45 minutes he played against Benfica in the final group game, having two shots and completing more dribbles than any other player (4).
These goal contributions at the Club World Cup have taken Olise’s tally for the 24/25 season to 40 goal contributions across his 53 appearances in all competitions for Bayern Munich. There is an argument to be made that Olise has been Bayern’s best player this season and they can look to him to create or score here.

🔍 Flamengo v Bayern Munich Players to Watch
⚪ Jonathan Tah
Tah has committed four fouls across his three appearances at the Club World Cup so far (1.70 per 90). He’s having to hold together quite a disorganised defence at the moment with key players still missing for Vincent Kompany which has seen Stanisic, who is usually a fullback, fill in at centre back. This is leaving Tah in situations where he has no choice but to commit a foul, this should be even more evident here against a Flamengo side that will focus on trying to catch Bayern out on the counter.
Tah averaged 0.48 fouls committed per 90 across his 33 appearances in the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen during the 24/25 season but this isn’t totally reflective of the situation that Tah will find himself in here with Bayern missing key personnel at the back. Odds of 1.83 for him to sin just once look generous.
🔴 Luiz Araujo
When analysing the potential threats for Flamengo here, Araujo stands out as a candidate who can hurt Bayern Munich, especially when Flamengo get opportunities on the break. Luis Araujo has provided a goal and an assist at the Club World Cup so far, managing five shots across his three appearances in the competition (1.81 per 90) with two of these efforts finding the target (0.72 per 90).
Araujo can play on both wings and this is where Flamengo are likely to target Bayern seeing as they are quite light in the fullback areas at the moment, especially if Konrad Laimer is drafted in to start at right-back.

💻 Flamengo v Bayern Munich Form and Tactics
Bayern will be really frustrated that they’ve ended up on this side of the draw, they were set to be in a really promising position to have a deep run in this tournament, but a 1-0 loss to Benfica in their final group game means that they will have to do it the hard way if they want to win the Club World Cup. Bayern have looked bright in attacking areas but their backline can certainly be tested, especially by a Flamengo side who are excellent when it comes to putting together counter attacks.
The Bayern Munich backline is a bit of a mashup at the moment. Jonathan Tah has joined Vincent Kompany’s side from Bayer Leverkusen but has found himself having to hold together an unfamiliar backline. Bayern are set to be without Davies, Ito, Boey and Kim for this game, which is an injury list that will massively encourage Flamengo, especially in the fullback areas where Bayern have already been exposed at times.
Flamengo have been really strong at the Club World Cup so far, with their standout moment coming in a 3-1 win against Chelsea, a game they probably would have won even if Chelsea had managed to keep all 11 men on the pitch - so they shouldn’t be written off here. Flamengo’s main strength is their defensive organisation, they currently sit atop the Brazilian Serie A, having conceded just four goals across their 11 matches, winning seven of these games.
