Newcastle Jets v Sydney FC
🏟
Friday 25th March – 8:45AM KO
Newcastle Jets stopped their run of defeats at three in the A-League last weekend by overcoming Wellington Phoenix 4-0, moving five points clear of the foot of the table. Sydney FC picked up their second win in a row, beating Macarthur 3-0 last week.
Newcastle looked to be slipping towards a battle to avoid the bottom spot in recent weeks with three losses in a row seeing the side drop down to 10th. They were able to produce a fantastic performance last week though, defeating Wellington with ease to reignite their slight chances of qualifying for the finals series this season.
Sydney FC look to be a different side to the one who recently went five games without a win. They’ve now won their last two games without conceding a goal and are approaching their best once again. Their position within the top six is still, very much, up for grabs though and a Newcastle win in this game would see the sides just three points apart.
Whilst the performance against Wellington last weekend was a great one for Newcastle, this could prove to be a step too far for the Jets. Sydney are looking back to their best and haven’t conceded a goal in their last two, whilst Newcastle had shipped nine in four prior to their victory last week. The value certainly looks present in backing Sydney FC to claim the win.

Brisbane Roar v Western United
🏟
Saturday 26th March – 6:05AM KO
Brisbane Roar were unable to build on their two victories in a row, being defeated 2-1 by Melbourne City in midweek. Western United are on a slightly poor run themselves, going three games without a win, although they have lost just one of those games.
Brisbane Roar looked to have turned a corner with wins over Wellington Phoenix and Perth Glory but their loss against Melbourne City stopped that progress in its tracks. The side have last nine of their 16 games and are only saved from bottom spot by the poor form of Perth Glory. The side haven’t kept a clean sheet since the end of January, as they struggle to contain the opposition attack.
Western United led the way in the A-League for much of the season but they have hit a wall in recent weeks, not winning in their last three attempts. This means they are now three points behind leaders, Melbourne City, but have two games in hand. A win here could prove to be vital in overhauling City and claiming their first title.
If this was a home game for Western United, there would be much more confidence in backing them for the win but with Brisbane having home field advantage, the draw no bet option looks much more enticing. There is still plenty of value in the market but offers some protection in case Brisbane are able to snatch a point.

Wellington Phoenix v Perth Glory
🏟
Saturday 26th March – 6:05AM KO
Wellington Phoenix have struggled in recent weeks, losing their last two games and losing ground in the race for the top six. Perth Glory are on an awful run of form, they haven’t won in seven games and, this week, parted company with head coach Richard Garcia.
Wellington have really struggled on the road this season, picking up just one point from six games but their home form has been exceptional. They have lost just once at home and taken 20 points from a possible 27. They are impressive defensively at home too, conceding an average of a goal a game, the second best home tally in the league this season.
Perth Glory have had a disaster of a season, winning just three times and struggling to rise from the foot of the table. They have now gone seven games without a win and have conceded eight in their last four. Richard Garcia left the club this week, leaving Ruben Zadkovich in temporary charge and he’ll be tasked with finding a win against Wellington.
A Perth victory doesn’t look very likely in this game with Wellington being so impressive at home this season. So for Wellington to be priced at 13/10 seems like a gift from the bookies. The home side should be taking all three points in this game with Perth looking a shell of a team.

Central Coast Mariners v Adelaide United
🏟
Saturday 26th March – 8:45AM KO
Central Coast Mariners are now unbeaten in four games, keeping in touch with the sides chasing finals series football and beat Macarthur 4-2 last time out. Adelaide United drew 0-0 with Western Sydney Wanderers last week, maintaining their position in third.
Central Coast Mariners have struggled for consistency this season but a run of four without loss has seen them emerge as outsiders to qualify for finals series football at the end of the season. Wins over Brisbane Roar and Macarthur have really boosted their chances although the five point gap might be too big for the side to overcome.
Adelaide United have been in third place for much of the season, keeping themselves ahead of the chasing pack but being unable to find enough to jump into the next bracket and challenge for the title. They’ve gone two games without a win, both against Western Sydney, but had won four of their last five prior to the double header.
Both sides will believe they can take something from this game but it looks a very tough one to call. What does look likely, however, is goals. Both sides have conceded 24 times this season, well over a goal a game, whilst also scoring at a really good rate too. That should see a really open game and the over 2.5 goal line looks great value.

Macarthur FC v Melbourne City
🏟
Saturday 26th March – 8:45AM KO
Macarthur come into this game off the back of three losses in their last four games and their place in the top six is now seriously under threat. Melbourne City have gone eight games unbeaten, improving their run with a 2-1 win over Brisbane Roar in midweek.
There have been times this season where Macarthur have looked like they could be title contenders but in recent weeks their form has dipped massively. They’ve lost important games against Central Coast and Melbourne Victory as well as being beaten 3-1 by Melbourne City in the reverse of this fixture just three weeks ago.
Melbourne City on the other hand have gone eight games unbeaten and now sit three points clear at the top of the table. They’ve scored 41 times in 20 games, 13 more than any other team this season, although they have conceded the second highest total in the league. Another win here would bring them one step closer to retaining their title but they still have to hold off the challenge of Western United.
The value in this game certainly lies in backing Melbourne City to pick up the win with the form of the two sides being polar opposites. The away side should be claiming the win and extending their unbeaten run to nine games as they march towards another A-League title win.
