GAIS v Malmö
Kick Off: Saturday 5th July at 14:00
Competition: Swedish Allsvenskan
GAIS have scored in their last six games, going unbeaten.
GAIS have also conceded in five of those last six matches.
Malmö have only won two of their last five matches.
Malmö come up against GAIS in a clash between two teams just behind the top contenders, sitting in 5th and 6th respectively, with both looking to put pressure on those above.
GAIS come into the game the most in-form team in the league, having taken 13 points in their last five, while Malmö have struggled and only won two of five, picking up eight points in the process.
We can expect a close encounter as indicated by the match odds, GAIS priced at 2.63 for a win and Malmö the slight favourites at 2.45.
While there could be goals, a fairly controlled match is expected, with over 2.5 goals getting a generous 1.95 in odds, the unders line sits at 1.75.
⭐ GAIS v Malmö Predictions and Best Bets
GAIS have been imperious of late, winning four of their last five, scoring 12 goals in the process. They are also tough to beat at home, having only lost one game at Gamla Ullevi all season. As such, the GAIS double chance at 1.44 is attractive, especially considering the injury situation at Malmö.
The reigning champions do, however, need some sort of result to stand any chance of mounting a late title challenge. They looked better against Mjällby than before the summer break and will look to get something out of this game. GAIS have conceded in four of their last five games, a trend which could continue here. The both teams to score is overpriced at 1.73 considering GAIS have seen this happen in 62% of Allsvenskan games this season.
Over 2.5 goals at evens is attractive too, with both teams likely going for the win.
🟢 GAIS Go from Strength to Strength
After a hugely impressive first season back in the top tier last year, finishing in 6th place, they are now playing arguably even better to push up the table after a hesitant start to 2025. They are back in 6th, two points behind Malmö and ten points off Mjällby at the top.
They are incredibly hard to beat, having only suffered two defeats all year, losing just once in the last 12 games, and have now started filling up the win column too.
Ibrahima Diabate is the hottest striker in the division, netting seven goals in the last five, and also providing an assist in that period. He is reportedly on the radar of several foreign clubs but while still at GAIS, he will continue to tear up Allsvenskan and bulldoze defences.
At home, GAIS have been difficult to face, only conceding four goals in five games while scoring six, however that's only been enough for two wins.
In all Allsvenskan matches, GAIS have scored in their previous six and in eight of their last nine, only failing to score away at Elfsborg in early May.
🔵 Malmö Not Living Up to Expectations
Reigning champions Malmö FF continue to struggle and have not managed to put together any run of form to speak of to climb up the table. They have lacked cohesion and have been too inefficient and open to be countered even when controlling games.
They sit in 5" place, a hugely disappointing start to the season, being huge favourites beforehand.
The injury situation is dire, last week missing half their starting lineup and having to play several youngsters from the academy. The match with league leaders Mällby ended 1-1 in a match Malmö could have won, again not holding onto their lead.
Malmö have only scored 20 goals in 14 matches from 22.8 xG, indicating their lack of sharpness in front of goal. Previous top scorer Isaac Kiese Thelin is a shadow of his former self and Erik Botheim is out injured for the season.
Defensively, meanwhile, they have actually overperformed their xG, only conceding 11 goals from 16.4 xG
📊 GAIS v Malmö Head-to-Head Key Stats
Matches between these two sides tend to be tight affairs, with both meetings last season having a goal or less per game; GAIS managed a 0-0 draw at home while Malmö FF won 1-0 in their home game.
They have not yet met this season and the circumstances now are quite different to last year, with GAIS being more free-scoring and Malmö more open defensively and ravaged by injuries. As such, recent form rather than the head-to-head record is more relevant for this fixture.
