Ghana will make their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup this summer. The 2026 edition will be 20 years since the Black Stars qualified for the global showpiece for the first time. Despite reaching the quarter-finals in 2010, Ghana have not past the group stages since and will hope to break that trend in USA, Canada and Mexico.

🌍 How did Ghana qualify for the 2026 World Cup?
Drawn in CAF Group I alongside Mali, Madagascar, Comoros, Central African Republic and Chad, Ghana topped the standings with 25 points from a possible 30, scoring 23 goals and conceding just six across their 10 matches.
It was a dominant campaign from start to finish, with a 5-0 thrashing of Chad among the standout results. Jordan Ayew finished as Ghana's leading scorer with seven goals, while Mohammed Kudus scored the goal that officially sealed qualification.
Ghana finished five points clear of 2nd-placed Madagascar, confirming their place at football's biggest stage for the fifth time in their history.
👔 Who is the Ghana manager at the 2026 World Cup?
Carlos Queiroz was handed the Ghana job just 72 days before the World Cup kicked off, following Otto Addo's sacking after friendly defeats to Austria and Germany in March.
Yet the 73-year-old Portuguese is nobody's panic buy. He guided Portugal to the knockout phase at the 2010 World Cup and took charge of Iran at the 2014, 2018 and 2022 tournaments, making this his fifth consecutive World Cup as a coach.
He also had two spells as Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant at Manchester United. Short on preparation time, but big on experience makes a fascinating case.
🔎 Who are Ghana's key players to watch at World Cup 2026?
Antoine Semenyo
What a season to be heading into a World Cup from. Semenyo scored 10 goals in the first half of the campaign at Bournemouth before joining Manchester City in January, where he has added further goals and trophies to his remarkable year.
He won both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup with City, scoring the winning goal in the FA Cup final against Chelsea with a stunning backheeled finish at Wembley.
His 17 Premier League goals this season make him the highest-scoring Ghanaian in a single top-flight campaign. Ghana arrive at this tournament with one of the most in-form attackers in European football.
Thomas Partey
At his best, Thomas Partey is the engine that makes Ghana tick. He is a commanding presence who dictates tempo, wins the ball back and drives his side forward with purpose.
The 32-year-old Villarreal midfielder has almost 60 caps for Ghana with 15 goals and remains one of the most experienced figures in the squad. The concern heading into this tournament is fitness, as Partey has struggled for consistent playing time at Villarreal this season.
When fit and sharp, he elevates Ghana significantly. The question Queiroz will be desperate to answer is whether he can get that version of Partey on the pitch.
Issahaku Fatawu
The Leicester City winger arrives at this World Cup with considerable momentum behind him. Despite plying his trade in the Championship for a struggling side that got relegated to League One, Fatawu delivered nine goals and seven assists.
He has carried that form into the international arena too, contributing a goal and an assist across three 2026 World Cup qualifiers, and then finding the net against Germany in the March friendlies.
Still only 21, his directness, unpredictability and eye for goal make him one of the most exciting young players in this Ghana squad and a genuine threat off either flank.
