Fluminense’s main strength at the Club World Cup so far has been their defensive organisation in keeping two clean sheets in the group stages, but Arias is a player who can ensure that they still offer an attacking threat in this game.

Arias has had 9 shots across his three appearances at the Club World Cup (3.0 per 90), scoring one goal. Arias is averaging 1.37 shots per 90 in the Brazilian Serie A this season but his increase in the games at this tournament would suggest that we can expect an increase in these numbers. Arias is a very effective player in moments of transition and can hurt Inter when they’re a bit more stretched.

🔵 Francesco Pio Esposito 

Under new manager, Cristian Chivu, Esposito has been given the opportunity to lead the line at the Club World Cup for Inter alongside Lautaro Martinez.

He was fouled four times in Inter’s 2-0 win over River Plate last time out and has a strong fouls won record across the 24/25 season. Esposito won 68 fouls across his 34 appearances in Serie B during the most recent campaign (2.25 per 90).

Esposito will be up against a Fluminense side that have committed 12+ fouls in two of their games so far.

💻 Inter Milan v Fluminense Form and Tactics

Inter were pretty bright in the group stages but it was a group that many expected them to top which they did without losing a game. Inter are in a bit of a transitional phase after long term coach Simone Inzaghi departed for Al Hilal with former Inter player Cristian Chivu stepping in to replace him.

Inter have kept the same style and structure from Inzaghi’s tenure with a 3-5-2 shape but Chivu has changed some of the personnel. Esposito has been trusted to lead the line on a few occasions and impressed, particularly in Inter’s 2-0 win over River Plate last time out. Kristjan Asllani has also been given more of a chance in the middle of the park which is likely to prepare Inter for a more refreshed midfield next season seeing as the likes of Mkhitaryan and Calhanoglu are aging.

Fluminense have been one of the strongest defensive sides at the tournament so far, keeping clean sheets in two of their three group games - both of these fixtures ended in 0-0 draws. There is likely to be quite a tactical battle between the sides in the early stages, both are strong defensively and it will be hard to find much space on the pitch. Fluminense have Thiago Silva as part of their backline who is every bit as effective at 40 as he was at 20.
