Martinez has had 11 shots across his three games at the Club World Cup so far (3.91 per 90) with three of these attempts finding the target (1.07 per 90). All three of Martinez’s attempts which have been on target have ended up in the back of the net so he has been pretty clinical in the competition so far.

Martinez was particularly impressive in the knockout stages of the Champions League during the 24/25 season, he averaged 1.89 shots on target per 90 across his 14 appearances in the Champions League with this record returning nine goals.

Under new manager Cristian Chivu, Esposito has been handed the chance to spearhead Inter’s attack at the Club World Cup, partnering Lautaro Martinez up front. His ability to draw fouls was evident in Inter’s 2-0 victory over River Plate, where he was fouled four times. This fits with his wider record, having won 68 fouls in 34 Serie B appearances last season - an average of 2.25 per 90 minutes.  

Esposito’s physical presence and clever movement make him a constant nuisance for defenders, and Fluminense will need to be disciplined to contain him. The Brazilian side have already shown a tendency to concede fouls, committing 12 or more in two of their three matches so far in the tournament.  

If Esposito can continue to exploit defensive lapses and win set pieces in dangerous areas, he could play a pivotal role in unlocking Fluminense’s stubborn backline. His partnership with Martinez adds another layer of threat, ensuring Inter have multiple ways to trouble their opponents.

Yann Sommer has been called into action twice in each of his last two games at the Club World Cup against River Plate and Urawa Red Diamonds. The 36 year old is a great shot stopper as illustrated by the 51 saves he made in the Champions League during the 24/25 season across 14 matches (3.56 per 90).

Sommer is a massive part of Inter’s positive defensive record and will have to be alert here to the chances that Fluminense can manage on the counter. They’ve drawn 2+ saves from the opposition keeper in two of their three games at the Club World Cup so far. Inter have shown moments of vulnerability which reminds us that they are in a stage of transition at the moment. 

Martinez has shown impressive form in the Club World Cup so far, scoring twice in the three group stage matches. Across these games, he has taken 11 shots, with three of them on target - all of which resulted in goals.  

This performance extends a strong individual season for him at Inter Milan, where he netted 24 times in 52 appearances. At the Club World Cup, Martinez has been partnered with Esposito in attack, rather than his usual teammate Thuram. The pairing has worked well, with the two strikers complementing each other effectively, and they are likely to continue their partnership into the knockout stages.  

Having already scored against Monterrey and Urawa Red Diamonds in the tournament, Martinez stands a good chance of adding to his tally. Inter have found the net in all three of their matches so far, though they may need to raise their level to break down a resilient Fluminense side, who have kept two clean sheets in the competition.

Fluminense have built their success at the Club World Cup on solid defensive foundations, keeping two clean sheets in the group stages. However, Arias provides the attacking edge that ensures they remain a threat going forward. Across his three appearances in the tournament, he has taken nine shots - averaging three per 90 minutes - and found the back of the net once.  

In the Brazilian Serie A this season, Arias has been averaging 1.37 shots per 90, but his increased output at the Club World Cup suggests he is stepping up in bigger matches. His ability to exploit transitional moments makes him particularly dangerous, especially against an Inter side that may leave gaps when pushing forward.  

Arias’ pace and movement could prove crucial in breaking down Inter’s defence, particularly if Fluminense can catch them on the counter. While their defensive resilience has been key so far, Arias offers the spark needed to trouble even the most organised backlines.

Fluminense have received more cards than their opponents in two of their three games at the Club World Cup so far with the exception coming against Dortmund in the opening game where they each received two cautions.

Fluminense rely heavily on their defensive organisation and this can be accompanied by a tendency to stack up fouls and test the referee. They received a flurry of four yellow cards in the last 20 minutes of their game against Mamelodi Sundowns which displayed how tensions can teeter over the edge in the Fluminense camp.
