Fuelled by a passion for sport and a sharp instinct for uncovering patterns in data, beating the bookies became the perfect outlet for my competitive streak. Now I take pleasure in sharing my finds with ABC punters. I enjoy finding niche angles and betting value in a range of markets and leagues, my favourite being in Serie A.

With Cremonese overperforming and Inter underperforming, it’ll be interesting to see what the San Siro has to offer for us on Saturday.

Currently, only one point separates the two, as Cremonese sit in 7th spot with nine points to their name - undoubtedly the league’s surprise package so far. That said, Inter seem to have found their stride, and probably merit their heavy favouritism coming into this clash.

Inter v Cremonese Best Bet

Fixtures for: Saturday 4th October

Inter v Cremonese

Serie A

17:00

Inter to Win to Nil

On paper, Cremonese’s unbeaten start to their Serie A return should worry Inter; however, fortune has sided with Davide Nicola, and given their low chance-creation, I expect the Nerazzurri to win and keep a clean sheet.

Cremonese have picked up nine points from their opening five matches, leaving them in 6th; however, they rank second-bottom in terms of xPts. Davide Nicola’s men have mustered just six goals this season, and in only one game have managed to accumulate over 0.45xG

Inter, meanwhile, boast the league’s best defensive record, allowing their opponents a combined 3.9xGa over their five games. They’ve kept clean sheets in three of their last four, and enter this match amid their best run of form all season.

📈 Inter v Cremonese Form & Stats

Inter’s slow start to the season had many Nerazurri fans worried - me included - and while question marks do remain as to Chiuvu’s ability to fill Inzaghi’s boots, Inter’s resurgence of form as of late is pretty encouraging.

Having initially lost two of their opening three games, and keeping to an unusually quiet summer transfer window, it looked as though a long, difficult season might be in store for the Nerazzurri. However, their 2-0 victory over Ajax proved to be the spark they needed, igniting a four-match winning streak in which they’ve been breached just once,

Their last two have undoubtedly been their best performances since Chiuvu took over, with Inter racking up 6.8xG and limiting their opponents to a combined 0.29. Inter conceded just nine shots and a single shot on target across those two games.

Going forward, Pio Esposito is the name on the tip of every Italian’s tongue, with the youngster’s impressive strength and build-up play captivating the eye of the media, and potentially the national team.

Similarly, Martinez’s return to form has seen him bag three times over his last two appearances, which serves as a massive relief for the Inter faithful.

Cremonese have enjoyed a fantastic start to life in Serie A, remaining one of only three unbeaten teams. They’ve picked up two wins and three draws since the beginning of the season, including an impressive 2-1 victory against AC Milan to kick off their campaign.

They followed that up with a win against Sassuolo, but have since been held to three consecutive draws.

Those three games have produced a total of just two goals, with both coming in Cremonese’s 1-1 draw with Cesc Fabregas’s Como, last time out.

It’s probably fair to say that frustrating their opponents and keeping the scoreline to a minimum is an important feature of Cremonese’s game plan. Attack has been less of a priority, which has culminated in them averaging just 0.27xG per game over their last three.

This isn’t the only underlying figure that suggests their points tally might flatter them; in fact, only Lecce have picked up fewer xPts to date. Over time, these metrics tend to converge to what the underlying numbers would suggest, and it’s my view that by the end of Saturday, Cremonese will find themselves one step closer to realising that fate.
