Inter Milan welcome Lazio with Cristian Chivu’s side hoping to continue to pile pressure on league leaders Napoli, who sit just one point above the Nerazzurri.
Lazio have struggled to find momentum under Maurizio Sarri so far this season, winning just one of their five games and languishing in 8th in Serie A, six points behind Sunday's opponents.

📈 Inter Milan v Lazio Form & Tactics
Chivu has been intelligent with how he’s managed this Inter side. It already had a lot of the ingredients to be a top performing side in Serie A and the Champions League, thanks to the work of Inzaghi, who had sculpted this side over the last few seasons to be a real force in Italian football and Europe.
It reminds me a little of the succession that took place between Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot with Inzaghi leaving behind a side that is ready to challenge for major trophies. This has been evident so far this season with Inter coming out on top in the majority of attacking metrics, including shots on target, goals and xG. These underlying numbers could point to Inter as early title favourites with some rumblings of discontent at their title rivals, Napoli.
Sarri was drafted back into the hot seat at Lazio following two unsuccessful spells for Lazio under Igor Tudor and Marco Baroni, who were ultimately unable to fulfil the demands of the board, which is European football.
The concerns are how weak Lazio have been on the road this term, winning just one of their five matches. They’ve only scored three goals across those games which is one of the weakest away goalscoring records in Serie A. Recent form has been a bit brighter with Lazio unbeaten across their last five matches, though three of those ended in draws - once again highlighting their inability to kill off games.
📔Inter Milan v Lazio Formation & Team News
Inter have stuck with their effective 3-5-2 shape this season but have added key and necessary attacking reinforcements, which have really helped to increase their attacking threat in games. Inter’s shape is incredible and an example of prime football organisation, though they did lack a bit of a spark in the final third last term which was exposed harshly by PSG in the Champions League final.
The additions of players like Pio Esposito and Ange-Yoan Bonny offer Inter more options in the final third, should their usual pairing of Marcus Thuram and Martinez fail. Martinez and Esposito are expected to be the duo that line up here, with Thuram still on the sidelines having suffered an injury in the early weeks of the campaign.
Lazio will line up in a 4-3-3 with a focus on building through the thirds. I’m quite familiar with Sarri’s style having watched it every week when he was Chelsea manager. He still wants his side to play in that same way, with a big focus on the holding midfielder as the dictator of play, but his patterns can lead to sanitised football which doesn’t actually create many goalscoring opportunities, as shown by only scoring three goals on the road this team.
Both sides are missing players, but Lazio’s injury list is a lot more significant than Inter Milan’s. Lazio are expected to be without Nicolo Rovella, Nuno Tavares, Alessio Romanogli, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Taty Castellanos for this encounter with nearly all of those players nailed on for a start if they were fit enough to play - this could really swing the pendulum in favour of Inter Milan with Lazio already weak on the road.
