This should be an interesting match at the King Power Stadium. Leicester have begun to look stronger in their performances to match the results that have actually been there all season.

Portsmouth are one of six Championship clubs that currently sit with a record of three wins, three draws, and three losses, which typifies what sort of league the Championship is this season.

These recommended Best Bet Builder Bookmakers are worth a look for the week's midweek EFL action.

4 Selections @ 6.33

Over 3.5 Cards @ 1.53

Portsmouth's matches this season have been very card-heavy. This isn’t completely down to Portsmouth; they are averaging 2.2 yellow cards per match in the league this season, but their opponents are receiving 2.5 yellow cards against them, so they are clearly encouraging matches that descend into a physical battle on a regular basis. In away matches, the averages move a little with Pompey averaging 2.75 yellow cards per game.

Leicester aren’t as card-heavy as Pompey, only averaging 1.6 cards per match, but their matches are still averaging over 3.5 cards, as their opponents are getting two cards per match against them.

Importantly, we have a referee appointment that is conducive to card betting. The official for this match is Farai Hallam, who will be taking charge of his 19th Championship match in his career. He has averaged exactly four yellows per match in his career so far, but in his six matches so far this season, that has stepped up to 4.6 yellows per match. Hallam has actually given seven cards out in three separate

Leicester Corner Match Bet @ 1.44

Though Leicester have a negative corner record over their last 30 matches, once we remove the Premier League matches and also concentrate on their home matches, they have actually won three out of their four home league matches this season in the corner count very convincingly.

The one that they lost was also convincingly, and that was to Birmingham early in the season (1 vs 7), but they won vs Sheffield Wednesday on opening day (13 vs 3), vs Coventry (10 vs 3), and against Wrexham (7 vs 1). Leicester also won the corner count in their last match vs Swansea, five to two, so with their improving performances, more corners in their favour.

As for Portsmouth, they have the opposite record. They have lost three of their four corner battles away from home in the Championship. The averages are that Portsmouth are winning four corners away from home versus conceding 5.5 corners.

Marlon Pack to Commit 2+ Fouls @ 1.57

Pack has regained his place in the centre of midfield alongside Andre Dozzell, and the fact that Portsmouth won their last match against Middlesbrough so well with Pack in the team would suggest that he is in line to start again here.

He is the shortest player in the book for fouls, but that doesn’t mean to say that he isn’t backable for two fouls here. As discussed above, we have a referee who is very conducive to bets on cards, and that also works for fouls. Farai Hallam is averaging 25 fouls per Championship match officiated so far this season, which is a higher average than the majority of other referees, which helps our bet here.

There is also Pack’s own personal record. He committed six fouls in the Boro match, which is obviously very high and cannot be expected to be maintained, but he also committed two against Watford.

Portsmouth need their central midfielders to be hard-working and combative, and this often falls more to the partner of Andre Dozzell in there. Luke Le Roux committed four fouls when he played in there in the previous match to Pack.

Jordan James to have 2+ Shots @ 1.91

The young Welshman has made a big impact since breaking into the team in a central midfield role, and he is still being slightly underrated in the shots market.

His market value is becoming less obvious due to his goalscoring exploits, but he is still worthy of a bet at this price in my opinion. The other side of the fact he is scoring great goals is that he is more confident to take strikes at goal on, and also, Marti Cifuentes and his team are more likely to find ways to present James with goalscoring chances and opportunities.

James is averaging 2.44 shots per 90, but he has started only four matches so it isn’t a huge sample size. However, whenever he has played more than half a game, which is on three of the four starts, he has cleared this line. He took three shots in the last match against Swansea, obviously including his excellent goal from the corner of the box.

📈 Leicester v Portsmouth Form & Tactics

Leicester have lost only once this season, but like much of the Championship this term, too many draws has been the key issue for the Foxes. Leicester are seven matches unbeaten in the league, three wins, four draws, but their most complete performance of the season was last time out at Swansea, albeit it still took two excellent strikes by key players to win the match.

Leicester are down in 16th for expected goals; they have scored more than expected, again mainly because of excellent strikes from outside the box or difficult angles, which doesn’t necessarily make it unsustainable, but it is improbable that they can keep it up. Cifuentes will be looking for continued improvement in defence as well, as they are 19th for expected goals against.

As mentioned in the intro, Portsmouth have the ideal midtable record of won three, drawn three, lost three, but, interestingly, they are one of six clubs with that same record. As suggested by this record as well, the results have been inconsistent for Pompey, but their last Championship match was a big 1-0 win at home to Middlesbrough, it was their first win in five matches, and re-established an important home record that had been under threat.

This is more of a free swing for Portsmouth, which makes them dangerous as well. Most of Portsmouth’s vital statistics draw a picture of a team who are very midtable. They are ranked 12th for xG and 14th for xGA, but the rest of their attacking numbers are poor. They are 21st for shots on target, 23rd for big chances, and 19th for touches in the opponents’ penalty area.

📔 Leicester v Portsmouth Formation & Team News

Leicester will take to the field with a back four and probably in a 4-2-3-1 shape. They have been through many different midfield combinations, but Jordan James has made an impact in recent weeks and is likely to start. Patson Daka is also likely to retain his place, and Abdul Fatawu is a certain starter on the right. Fatawu is the key man that Portsmouth will have to work out a plan for.

It is mainly international break fatigue that Cifuentes will have to combat in his team selection. Minutes given to Jordan Ayew could cost him a start here, whilst Jannik Vestergaard, who played full matches for Denmark, is more likely to start to keep a consistency of selection in defence for the Foxes.

John Mousinho is a 4-2-3-1 man through and through. It is the system that Portsmouth have recruited to diligently over the last few years, and that is a big key as to why Pompey have become a solid Championship outfit. A few of the newer signings have yet to really force their way into the first XI, but Adrian Segecic has been a regular and has added much to the attacking outlook of the team. Min-hyeok Yang has also come in and delivered goals from wide.

Nicolas Schmid, Conor Shaughnessy, Callum Lang, Josh Murphy, and Thomas Waddingham are all still out injured for Mousinho.
