Cody Gakpo to Score Anytime

Gakpo was bright in Netherlands’ 1-1 draw with Poland last time out, he had one shot on target and created two chances so he was a little unlucky not to come away from the game with a goal contribution. He was a constant threat as further evidenced by the three fouls he won in the game.

Gakpo should get more regular opportunities here seeing as Lithuania are ranked 136 places lower than Ronald Koeman’s side. This should see Gakpo improve on the eight touches in the box he managed against Poland. Away from the international scene,

Gakpo has started strongly in the Premier League with three goal contributions across his three appearances for Liverpool. Gakpo should be given a few opportunities to add to the 15 goals he’s scored across his 41 caps for the Netherlands here.

Over 2.5 Goals

Netherlands are more than capable of covering this line on their own, but Lithuania have proven to be pretty stubborn in their qualifying games so far - though they haven’t yet faced a side with the quality and efficiency of Netherlands.

Netherlands hit eight goals against Malta who are only ranked 25 places lower than Lithuania in the FIFA World Rankings which indicates that the home side could be on the end of an unflattering scoreline here.

🟢 Lithuania Proving to be a Stubborn Opponent

Lithuania have managed to avoid defeat in three of their four qualifying games so far. It will be a really tough task for them to qualify from this group with the likes of Finland, Poland and Netherlands all favoured ahead of them to make it out of Group G.

They’ve been stubborn in these games, but this harmed their goal threat. Lithuania have only managed to score three goals across their four qualifying matches so far and two of these goals came in one game against Finland. It’s really difficult to find any sort of edge that Lithuania will have in this game which has become even more important for their opponents following their 1-1 draw against Poland last time out.

The one slender advantage that Lithuania can cling to here is that they are the home side. This will, at the very least, give them some respite and possibly mean that they aren’t on the end of a thrashing, as Malta were when they travelled to face Netherlands earlier this year.

🟠 Netherlands can take control of Group G

What would usually be a routine training exercise for Netherlands has become a must win game following their 1-1 draw against Poland last time out which has really opened up the group. Poland, Finland and Netherlands are essentially fighting for two spots in the group with Lithuania and Malta not really having the quality to disrupt this established order in Group G.

All three sides are tied on seven points heading into this next round of fixtures, but Netherlands crucially have a game in hand. I don’t think that Ronald Koeman’s side will find themselves in too much trouble in this group, but it has become a more complicated assignment than they probably expected at the start of their qualifying campaign.
