🔴 Turkey Vying for an Upset
Turkey had a successful Nations League run in 2024, finishing second in their group with three wins and two draws from their six games. They then beat Hungary 6-1 over the course of two legs which saw them secure promotion to League A.
The enterprising duo of Arda Guler and Kenan Yildiz has provided a real injection of pace and energy in the final third for the Crescent Stars, while Hakan Calhanoglu is able to dictate play from a deeper defensive midfield role.
Turkey also made it to the quarter-finals at Euro 2024 before being eliminated by Netherlands. Their games were incredibly entertaining, buoyed by a strong support, with over 2.5 goals landing in all five of their matches, and both teams getting on the scoresheet in four.
Turkey have generally struggled against the top sides in recent history, but will be confident of causing Spain some issues in the final third.
⚪ La Roja to Maintain their Red-Hot Form
Spain took just five minutes to open their goalscoring account last time out as Mikel Oyarzabal latched on to a pinpoint pass from Martin Zubimendi to poke home.
La Roja were completely dominant in Sofia, restricting their opponents to just three shots, while racking up 24 attempts themselves. In the end, the 3-0 scoreline flattered the hosts, as Spain registered 12 shots on target, also hitting the crossbar once.
It was a clinical performance once again from Luis de la Fuente’s side, who have not lost in 90 minutes since a friendly against Colombia back in 2024. After their narrow defeat on penalties against Portugal to miss out on the Nations League title, there were doubts surrounding Spain and whether they would be able to get back on top, but they have been firmly put to bed.
La Roja looked stronger than ever, and will look to maintain their unbeaten streak against Turkey.
📊 Turkey v Spain H2H
Spain have won each of the last four competitive matchups against Turkey by an aggregate score of 8-1, but the last time these sides met was back in 2016.
Alvaro Morata, who is still involved with the first-team, scored a brace to help his side into the knockouts.
