Malta v Lithuania
Kick Off: Saturday 7th June at 17:00
Competition: World Cup 2026 Qualifiers - Europe
Malta host Lithuania in a battle of the minnows involved in the group, with neither side recording a win in their two games so far. Malta are very slight favourites at 2.75, whilst Lithuania can be backed at 2.80, and the draw is 2.88.
Under 2.5 goals is a heavy favourite at 1.44, whilst over 2.5 is as high as 2.70. This looks fair, given Malta’s last eight games have all seen two goals or fewer.
Malta are currently bottom of the group with 0 points, whilst Lithuania sit 3rd with one point, with the Netherlands separating the two, having not played yet.
⭐ Malta v Lithuania Predictions and Best Bets
We would edge towards Lithuania winning this game, given they have performed better against the same opposition as Malta, losing by a goal less against Poland and drawing with Finland, who beat Malta.
If you’re looking to boost the 2.80 for Lithuania to win, you can take a generous 4.33 for the away side to win to nil. With Malta having failed to score in their last three games, there's plenty of value in this pick, this match has the looking of a narrow 1-0 or 2-0 Lithuania win.
🔴 Must Win Match For Malta
The likelihood of Malta qualifying from this group is pretty slim, with bet365 offering a price of 66/1 for the 169th-ranked side in the world finishing in the top two of their group, but to stand any chance at all, you feel they must pick up wins against Lithuania.
They must find a way to score goals, having scored just four in their last 14 competitive games. You have to go back to June 2022 against San Marino when they last scored more than once in a qualification or Nations League match. Malta struggle up front, so Lithuania may only need to score once to win this match.
🟡 Lithuania in Desperate Need of a Lift
This fixture comes at the right time for Lithuania, who are on a wretched run of nine games without a win, seven of those being defeats.
Last time out, they drew 2-2 v Finland after being 0-2 down inside 20 minutes, which must have restored a bit of confidence for them to draw on. They have managed to score in five of their last seven games, so they do carry an attacking threat.
Their last away win came in a friendly against Latvia, and before that in a relegation play-off with Gibraltar, who both carry similar rankings to Malta.
📊 Malta v Lithuania Head-to-Head Key Stats
There have been no recent meetings of these two sides to draw anything from.
These two sides last met during the qualification campaign for the World Cup 2018, when they were in the same group. Lithuania won 2-0 at home, whilst the game in Malta ended in a 1-1 draw.
