Man City welcome Leeds to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with the hosts looking to recover from an uncharacteristic slump which has seen them lose their last two games against Newcastle and Bayer Leverkusen.
It’s been a tough period for Leeds, with pressure beginning to mount on Daniel Farke; they come into this encounter having lost five out of their last six games. It looks touch and go whether Leeds will be able to survive the dreaded drop to the Championship.

📂 Man City v Leeds Cheat Sheet
📈 Man City v Leeds Form & Stats
A disappointing defeat away to Newcastle last Sunday has been a source of frustration for Pep Guardiola; it’s created more daylight between City and Arsenal in the title race. Arsenal now occupy 1st position and sit seven points above them.
City’s overall performance levels have been generally quite good; they’ve been able to string together a good amount of wins, but Premier League defeats against Brighton, Spurs, Aston Villa, and Newcastle have been particularly damaging for their title charge.
City have been performing in alignment with their xG data, with a slight underperformance on their xPTS total by 0.8 points.
Despite a positive start to the season, which saw Leeds avoid defeat in four of their first six Premier League games, they haven’t been able to sustain that level of performance. Leeds have now lost five games in their last six, conceding 2+ goals in each of those defeats.
The visitors have certainly looked solid and compact at times, but have struggled to manage key moments at both ends of the pitch. The xG data suggests this. Leeds have underperformed on xGF by 3.9 goals, and underperformed on xGA by 5.6 goals. Such an underperformance has them seven places below where they should be. Leeds are posting underlying numbers more emblematic of a midtable side.
📔 Man City v Leeds Formation & Team News
Pep Guardiola generally sticks with his tried and tested 4-2-3-1 formation. There is a strong emphasis on retention of the ball and winning it back quickly when dispossessed. Guardiola has evolved with the modern game and is now flexible with playing more directly at times. Doku has become a key creative outlet on the left wing; his dribbling ability often creates space for teammates to latch onto cut-backs in the box.
Man City have just the two injury absentees, but it has left them limited in the centre of midfield with Mateo Kovacic and Rodri both unavailable.
Daniel Farke has typically adopted a 4-2-3-1 formation for much of his Leeds tenure, but has been happier to play a 4-3-3 in the Premier League, adding some extra steel and bite to midfield. Despite a major focus on controlled possession football, Leeds look to transition quickly when winning the ball back. Some critics have argued there’s an overreliance on individual moments of quality and magic to achieve goals.
Leeds will have Anton Stach unavailable after picking up a concussion against Aston Villa, while Sebastian Bornauw is still sidelined with a knee injury.
