With both players having a win and a loss to their names after two matches each, this game is perfectly poised and a must-win for both if they want to qualify for the next round of the competition. Van Gerwen eased past Noa-Lynn van Leuven 5-0 before being narrowly beaten 5-4 by Gary Anderson, while Joyce was defeated 5-1 by the Scotsman in his opening match before defeating van Leuven 5-3 on Sunday.

A very intriguing match to conclude Group G and one which, if you read our pre-tournament previews, was very much predicted as it’s a straight shootout between MVG and Ryan Joyce to join Gary Anderson in qualifying for the knockout stages.
Joyce is a tricky opponent but he’s not quite looked up to his usual self this weekend. He’s averaged below 90 in both games as he was mauled 5-1 by Gary Anderson in his opener and a little fortunate to prevail 5-3 against Noa-Lynn Van Leuven in his second game. He’s never been a big maximum hitter and he’s registered just one 180 in this event so far.
On the basis of examining the first two group games, this looks a bit more straightforward than envisaged pre-tournament for MVG and a victory is probably more likely now. Van Gerwen has hit three maximums during the event to date and his seasonal stats suggest he’s the better 180 hitter of the two.
The price on an MVG is just short of being tempting enough for a single so stick it in the double with him to hit the most maximums too and you get an odds against price.
