Havant and Waterlooville v Concord Rangers (National League South)
🏟
Saturday 8th October – 3:00PM KO
Havant and Waterlooville have played 10 games this season, they’ve won 7 and drawn 3. Despite Ebbsfleet also being unbeaten, the quality that Havant have displayed this season to remain unbeaten can not go unnoticed. Jake McCarthy has found the net on a variety of occasions, alongside James Roberts who has found some form recently. With 26 goals in 10 games, Havant are 2nd for goals scored this season, so any weaknesses in the Concord defence will be taken advantage of. Concord are 4th for goals conceded this season, meaning they’re likely to slip up at times.
Concord Rangers currently sit 20th, 2 points outside of the relegation zone. The issue for Concord is goalscoring, scoring only 8 goals so far. Their last win came against Taunton on the 13th August, they’ve played 8 games since. When facing promotion contending teams, Concord have struggled massively. They’ll be eager to find some points somewhere, especially with being so close to the relegation zone – although an away game at Havant really is not the place they’ll be expecting to pick up points. This isn’t a game that Havant will take easily either, if they want to keep up with the immaculate form of Ebbsfleet, they’ll need to continue winning games.
Therefore, I have no doubts that Havant will be dominating this fixture. It’s a must win game and they’re catching Concord at a time of poor form – they’ll be incredibly disappointed if they come away with anything less than three points.

Chelmsford City v Cheshunt (National League South)
🏟
Saturday 8th October – 3:00PM KO
Chelmsford have had a very positive start to the season, their only loss being to Havant & Waterlooville who currently remain unbeaten in the league. The Havant game also sits as the only home game they’ve lost in all competitions so far. Simeon Jackson has been Chelmsford’s most prolific goalscorer, but only with four goals. Robbie Simpson’s tactics have led to the home side playing an aggressive style of football with many players getting forward, consequently leading to a variety of goalscorers. Despite this, Chelmsford have remained strong at the back. They’ve conceded the 3rd least goals this season, meaning they have the best defensive record in the current top seven. With things tightening up at the top, this is a must win game for the home side and I have no doubts they’ll be ready.
Cheshunt currently sit 23rd in the league, with 1 win and 9 losses from 10 games so far. That one win also came in their first game of their season, meaning they have lost their last 9 league games. This is seemingly due to issues behind the scenes causing poor performances on the pitch and a severe lack of motivation for the players to go out and grab some points here and there. They have managed to score a range of goals this season totalling up to 12, although defensive issues let them down time and time again.
This is a game Chelmsford need to win if they’re serious about contending for promotion, I’ll be very shocked if they don’t. They’ve slipped up on some occasions this year, although against teams with much higher quality than Cheshunt and a lot more momentum.

Brackley Town v AFC Fylde (National League North)
🏟
Saturday 8th October – 3:00PM KO
Brackley have had a shaky start to the season, with 5 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses. They’ve tended to rise and fall in terms of form – losing three in a row and then going four unbeaten. An issue for them has been finding a proven goalscorer, leaving them with the worst goalscoring record in the top 10. However, some good form recently has seen them on the scoresheet more often. This finely matches Fylde’s poor defensive record this year, meaning Brackley should not struggle too hard to find the back of the net.
Fylde have had an inconsistent set of results for a team expected to be promoted this year. Granted, they sit one point away from being top of the league although their poor defensive efforts has led them to dropping points in games that they should be winning. This game could easily be another example of this, especially with them being the away side. I also have no doubts that Fylde will find the back of the net. Nick Haughton has scored 9 goals in 10 games so far, making him the National League North top scorer. There’s a strong likelihood that he will find himself on the scoresheet yet again.
Both teams will be looking for a win here, if Fylde win they have an opportunity to go top of the table and if Brackley win they will move into the play off positions. Whilst it remains early on in the season, both teams will be eager to gain all three points here.
