PSG v Atletico Madrid
Kick Off: Sunday 15th June at 20:00
Competition: FIFA Club World Cup
A heavyweight clash between PSG and Atletico Madrid is the first meeting between two European teams in the Club World Cup. The favourites to progress from the group are joined by Brazilian champions Botafogo and MLS side Seattle Sounders in Group C.
PSG enter this competition as one of the favourites to go all the way and lift the trophy, adding to their achievements in the Champions League and domestically during the 24/25 season, which saw the Parisians claim a historic treble. Atletico Madrid were in the shadows of Barcelona and Real Madrid during the 24/25 campaign in LaLiga, also crashing out of the Champions League at the hands of their Madrid rivals.

⭐ PSG v Atletico Madrid Best Bets
PSG cemented their position as the best team in Europe during the 24/25 season with the most emphatic Champions League final win in recent memory, running out 5-0 winners against Inter Milan in the showpiece event. Luis Enrique has assembled a balanced and hardworking team that is still stacked with talent, adding some much-needed work ethic to the immense talent of squads of previous seasons that fell short of lifting the most prestigious trophy in club football.
There aren’t many sides that will be able to deal with the attacking quality of PSG. The front three of Doue, Dembele, and Kvaratskhelia have been incredibly effective since the turn of the year, with PSG netting 92 goals across their 34 games in Ligue 1 during the 24/25 season (2.70 per game). Atletico Madrid are unlikely to be able to match the scoring power of PSG, seeing as they managed 68 goals across their 38 games in LaLiga during the 24/25 season (1.78 per game). Atletico Madrid seem to have a problem when it comes to killing off games; they drew 10 games during their LaLiga campaign, which was ultimately their downfall in the LaLiga title race as they lost the same number of games as Real Madrid and Barcelona (6).
PSG won their final five games of the season and will feel as if they have the beating of the majority of the sides in this competition following their successful Champions League campaign. The talent in the squad is undeniable and with Luis Enrique implementing an effective structure off the ball, PSG may be able to go on and secure another trophy to add to the success they achieved in the 24/25 season.
👕 PSG v Atletico Madrid Predicted XI

🔍 PSG v Atletico Madrid Players to Watch
🔵 Achraf Hakimi
Hakimi is probably the best right back in world football at the moment, based on his consistent performances for PSG during the 24/25 season. He’s incredibly attacking-minded as the 21 goal contributions he registered for PSG during the 24/25 season across 48 appearances would suggest - this would be a decent return for an attacking player, it is an exceptional record for a fullback. Hakimi had two shots and scored in PSG’s 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League final.
He had 36 shots across 17 appearances in the Champions League during the 24/25 season (2.10 per 90) and also maintained an average of 1.39 shots per 90 during the Ligue 1 campaign. Hakimi had five shots when these sides faced off in the Champions League back in the league phase of the competition.
🔴 Julian Alvarez
Julian Alvarez ended the 24/25 campaign as Atletico Madrid’s top scorer with 29 goals across his 54 appearances for Diego Simeone’s side. He also pitched in with seven assists during the campaign, taking his tally to 36 goal contributions in his debut season in Spain.
Alvarez ended the regular season strongly with five goal contributions across his final five games of the campaign. Alvarez also showcased his ability to perform against the very best sides with eight goal contributions across his 10 appearances in the Champions League during the 24/25 season (7 goals, 1 assist).

💻 PSG v Atletico Madrid Form and Tactics
PSG are expected to continue to line up in their effective 4-3-3 shape with a fluid frontline that is almost impossible to contain. Their work off the ball is just as important as the goals they score, Luis Enrique has implemented a ruthless counter press which often leaves opposition sides suffocated and at the behest of PSG’s electric frontline.
PSG are strong in every area of the pitch, a lot of attention goes to the front three who are probably the best in Europe at the moment, but the rest of the squad also oozes talent. The midfield three of Ruiz, Neves and Vitinha help the Parisians to control the game while the dominating presence of William Pacho at the back helps to provide defensive security. Even their fullbacks are best in class, with Hakimi and Mendes registering a staggering 31 goal contributions between them for PSG during the 24/25 season.
Atletico Madrid have a few more holes in their squad but can certainly carry an attacking threat with the likes of Julian Alvarez, Alexander Sorloth and Antonie Griezmann. Diego Simeone’s side are usually associated with a stubborn rearguard and general dogged approach to games, but this may not be effective against a PSG side that can be just as aggressive without the ball. It’s incredibly unlikely that Atletico Madrid will be able to keep a clean sheet here so they cannot rely on the stubbornness of their backline alone in their opening game of the Club World Cup.
These sides met in the early stages of the Champions League in a game which saw Atletico Madrid run out 2-1 winners. This was before Luis Enrique settled on his final PSG side which we saw in the Champions League final and shows how far they’ve come from the early stages of the season where they were written off in the Champions League.
