Rangers v Hibernian
📅
Kick Off: Sunday 29th September at 12:00
🏆
Competition: Scottish Premiership
Hot off the back of arguably their best performance of the season, Rangers host Hibs in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.
Philippe Clement’s side had some swagger about them in midweek as they beat Malmo in Sweden by a 2-0 margin. It would have been a more comfortable victory had they been more efficient in the final third, yet with four wins in five now, the Ibrox club are getting on a roll.
By contrast, Hibs have only one league victory to their credit this term, but after that arrived against St Johnstone last weekend, they can at least make the trip west with some hope.
Rangers v Hibernian Best Bets
Look for Ross McCausland to come into the Rangers team and hit at least one shot on target. After scoring off the bench in Malmo, the winger deserves more game time and will be on a mental high. In limited Premiership game time this season, he has managed 1.82 shots on target per 90, making his odds of 1.50 for McCausland to have 1+ shots on target appear rather long.
There is also some excellent value in the Fouls Market. Lewis Miller, who has been fouled twice as many times as any Hibs player in the Premiership, is a huge price to be a foul victim at least once in this game, back Miller to be fouled 1+ times at 1.67.
With Rangers picking up a strong head of steam, turning in better performances and results in recent games, look for them to overcome a still-fragile Hibs by at least two goals, just as they have done on each of the last six occasions these sides have played.

📊 Rangers Form and Stats
After a slow start to the season, Rangers have now picked up four wins in their last five matches. Philippe Clement, though, remains under pressure because of the five-point gap to Celtic (and Aberdeen) at the top of the league. Another misstep could easily see the Gers back on the brink of crisis.
The midweek win over Malmo has bought the Belgian some more credit, particularly in the style it was achieved. Rangers generated 2.5xG and gave up just 0.4xGA, with not a single shot on target given up. Nedim Bajrami grabbed his first goal for the club in midweek and turned in another encouraging performance. Dessers, meanwhile, was the key focal point of the attack, just as he has been domestically this season. He has 2.95 shots per 90 in the Premiership, with 1.82 of these finishing on target.
Ross McCausland is one not to sleep on here. After making a big impact off the bench in midweek, including the second goal, the Northern Ireland international could well be rotated into the starting XI. He has 4.55 shots per 90 and 1.82 on target, albeit his sample size this season is small.
In the Foul Market, Tom Lawrence is Rangers; leading man on 2.7 per 90, which is ahead of midfielder Mohamed Diomande on 2.37, though either could be rested ahead of Lyon.
Vaclav Cerny is another to monitor as he may be the direct opponent of Lewis Miller, who has been Hibs’ most-fouled player on 12. The Czech, committing 1.85 fouls per 90 in the league, is another who may be rested, however.
📊 Hibernian Form and Stats
Hibs made an encouraging start to the season in the League Cup with a series of big victories against lower-league opponents (plus one shock defeat away to Kelty) but have found the going harder since then. A four-match winless run at the beginning of the Premiership season was augmented by a 3-1 League Cup loss to Celtic, which was the second time that David Gray’s side had been beaten by the Hoops by a couple of goals this season.
With the pressure mounting on the manager, who was only appointed in the summer, the Hibees have responded with a three-match undefeated sequence. Draws against Dundee and Kilmarnock were added to by a win over St Johnstone last weekend, breaking a five-match run without a win.
Australia international Martin Boyle, who is a strong injury doubt for this match, has been the key figure offensively. He has two goals and an assist, contributing directly to 60% of his side’s league goals. Boyle is also leading Hibs in both shots and shots on target with 12 and four respectively, although Mykola Kukharevych is not far behind on ten and three.
The Edinburgh club could also deploy Dwight Gayle for the first time since he arrived as a free agent earlier in the month. Hibs, meanwhile, have spread their fouls out evenly. There are nine players who have committed between four and six fouls this season.
Kukharevych is also a key player in this market given he is the regular with the highest per-90 foul count at 1.71. Joe Newell sits on 1.5 while on-loan Celtic midfielder Kwon Hyeok-kyu is on 1.48. As a team, Hibs are committing 11.4 fouls per Premiership match this season and receiving 2.2 cards.
⚔️ Rangers v Hibernian Head-to-Head
Rangers have been utterly dominant against Hibs in recent years, winning 17 of the last 20 matches between the clubs and all of the previous seven. These are familiar foes, too. Last season, they faced each other four times, three in the league and once in the Scottish Cup. Rangers won each of these games by at least two goals and, indeed, are on a run of six straight matches in which they have defeated the Leith side by multiple goals.
Cyriel Dessers was Rangers’ ace against the Hibees last term. The Nigeria striker scored three times in as many league matches, netting one in each game. He is 1.91 with Paddy Power to do so again. Dessers also managed five shots in each of the two home league games against this opponent, hitting the target three times in both.
Rangers’ other main shooting protagonists from these games have since left the club, underlining the turnover the squad this season. In a similar vein, Elie Youane is the only member of the Hibs squad who had a shot on target against the Gers last season and even he is only half fit, having just made his return from injury.
Hibs, meanwhile, were remarkably clean against the Gers. They committed a total of 18 fouls across the three league fixtures yet still picked up six cards. Rangers committed 12 and 14 fouls in the two Ibrox matches, though again their major criminals have departed.
