🔴 Plzen Poor at Home
As already mentioned, Viktoria Plzen have failed to win each of their three home matches this season so far. Miroslav Koubek’s side lost the first leg of their second round qualifier against Servette and they have since played out a pair of 1-1 draws at home to both Jablonec and Slovacko in the Czech First League.
Perhaps surprisingly, Viktoria Plzen won the shot count 12-6 at Ibrox last Tuesday, not to mention they hit five corners to Rangers’ two. Considering the dynamics of the tie, we could see something similar at the Doosan Arena on Tuesday evening.
🔵 Rangers Looking to Get Back on Track
After producing their best performance under new manager Russell Martin with a 3-0 win over Viktoria Plzen last midweek, 10-man Rangers came crashing back down to earth on Saturday when being held to a 1-1 draw by Dundee at Ibrox.
That shock stalemate means Rangers have failed to win either of their opening two league games of the season for the first time since 1989.
An ineffectiveness at breaking down a low block against domestic opposition is something that Rangers have struggled with in recent years, and that was certainly the case again at the weekend. Martin’s men dominated proceedings with 76% possession, winning the expected goals (xG) battle 2.0 to 0.35.
📊 Viktoria Plzen v Rangers H2H
Last week’s first leg in Glasgow was the first-ever meeting between the two teams. However, it is worth noting that Rangers have come up against Czech giants Slavia Prague and Sparta Prague in the Europa League in recent years, drawing 1-1 with Slavia on their first visit to the Czech capital, before being edged out 1-0 by Sparta the following season.
