The most anticipated flat race meeting of the season has arrived. Royal Ascot 2023 is set to thrill horse racing aficionados, punters, and socialites through the five days at the Berkshire venue, beginning at 2.30pm this Tuesday. A dry week is expected and it’s worth bearing in mind any draw bias that may be identifiable early on, for any straight-mile handicap wagers later in the week. This is to be Frankie Dettori’s final Royal Ascot. The legendary Italian rider will hang up his riding boots at the end of the season and will be determined to enhance his exemplary strike rate at the track. He’s ridden 77 winners at the famous meeting and the legendary ‘magnificent seven’ in 1996 will be steeped in folklore.
After last season’s incredible tipping – where we landed a 50-1 winner and also guided loyal readers to a 125-1 placed selection, we are committed to providing you with a plethora of well-researched Royal Ascot tips, as well as a high-odds four-fold accumulator for our Royal Ascot tips 2023. We have burnt the midnight oil to put forward a couple of huge each-way contenders for day one, at big prices. Royal Ascot Day 1 Tips
2:30PM Queen Anne Stakes: Favourite Inspiral to kick off the festival in winning fashion
🏇
Inspiral
📈
Odds: 2.75
We kick off with The Queen Anne Stakes, a Group One contest over a straight mile of Ascot racecourse. INSPIRAL has not been seen since running a below-par sixth in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at this course last October. The John and Thady Gosden-trained three-time Group 1 winner was slowly away from the stalls that day, losing all realistic chances. She defied a similarly lengthy absence when running out an impressive scorer in last season’s Group 1 Coronation Stakes. Despite switching to the straight track this time around, there is little doubt the daughter of Frankel has the ability to take this weak-looking renewal out, especially in receipt of her 3lb sex allowance, coming out best on official figures.
🏇
Light Infantry
📈
Odds: 21.0
LIGHT INFANTRY certainly has the right credentials to keep on into a place at huge odds for trainer David Simcock. Interestingly, the Fast Company colt ties in well with Inspiral, having run a mighty second behind her in the 2022 Group 1 Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville, giving her 4lb. He is 1lb better off here and is likely to be finishing his race off strongly, having looked in need of a stamina test. If the principals set off too fast or the ground comes up on the slower side of good (showers are predicated on Monday), he is one who could surprise for a minor frame position.

3:05PM Coventry Stakes: Asadna to impress in this Group 2
🏇
Asadna
📈
Odds: 4.33
22 juveniles are set to scorch the Ascot turf as they race in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes over 6f at 3.05pm. As ever, this is likely to be run at a fast pace, with 17 last-time-out-winners in the line-up, and a completely unexposed bunch of speedsters taking centre-stage. It’s hard to be confident with so many unknown types but one who caught the eye in scintillating fashion on debut was ASADNA. George Boughey’s two-year-old, a 160,000 guineas purchase at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale, destroyed his opposition in a 12-length rout at Ripon. The Mehmas colt has received glowing praise subsequently, mainly due to his visually impressive success but also due to his quick time – he was 0.97 seconds faster than a now rated 85 handicapper later on the same card.
🏇
Army Ethos
📈
Odds: 17.0
Next up on our Royal Ascot tips 2023 is last year’s winning connections could have a say in the finish this season, with ARMY ETHOS, who scored on debut in good style at Ayr. A half-brother to speedy two-year-old winners Operatic and Dynamic Force, he was an emphatic winner, who appeared to be a smart individual. It was worth noting that Hollie Doyle reported he should strip fitter for his debut run, which boosts confidence, despite an obviously competitive juvenile contest. One who could surprise is Windsor’s maiden scorer, Chief Mankato, after a late thrust to get up near the line. The form is working out nicely and is one to keep on the right side of.

3:40PM King’s Stand Stakes: Coolangatta to star in Tuesday’s feature race
🏇
Coolangatta
📈
Odds: 3.75
COOLANGATTA certainly has the right credentials to be considered a leading hope in the feature race on day one of Royal Ascot. Australian runners boast an excellent record in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes, having secured the prize five times, including last season with the sensational Nature Strip, who scorched to a four-and-a-half length romp for trainer Chris Waller. The Group 1 Lightning Stakes at Flemington has proven to be the key trial for Aussie runners at Royal Ascot. This successful stepping stone has led to six Royal Ascot winners and Coolangatta bids to enhance that incredible record, having won the 2023 Lightning Stakes in February.
Trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace will send their champion three-year-old filly to the UK early next month and she will be sent to Charles Hills’ yard. They are keen to follow in the footsteps of Nature Strip, who was given the perfect preparation from the aforementioned stable.
Coolangatta has won five from her eight starts and is already a dual Group 1 winner, who possesses a typically smart turn of foot. She is likely to play catch me if you can to her rivals, who may be chasing shadows if the ground is on the quick side of good.
🏇
Mitbaahy
📈
Odds: 26.0
In what promises to be a truly run test at the minimum distance, MITBAAHY has the ability to finish off his race strongly and find a minor placing in our Royal Ascot tips. The son of Profitable may have something to find with the market principles on official ratings but is a notable closer, who may benefit from the expected fast tempo. He ran an excellent fifth behind the reopposing Dramatised at Haydock; his effort can be upgraded as he raced down the unfavoured centre of the track.

4:20PM St James’s Palace Stakes: Paddington to bring Aidan O’Brien ninth event win
🏇
Paddington
📈
Odds: 3.13
The St James’s Palace Stakes looks to be one of the races of the week, as the English and Irish 2000 Guineas winners face-off. Chaldean ran out an impressive and determined scorer at Newmarket last month, under Frankie Dettori. He improved for the rise to a mile that day but, in beating a longshot on soft ground, some may have a question mark about the strength of that form. PADDINGTON is four from five and has rattled off a hat-trick this campaign. Aidan O’Brien bids to win this event for a remarkable ninth time and holds huge claims with this three-year-old, who has stepped up markedly on each start, culminating in a smart victory at Curragh three weeks ago. A strong-travelling individual, the Siyouni colt is maturing and ought to appreciate the stiff finish at Ascot, having finished his previous race off powerfully.
🏇
Galeron
📈
Odds: 34.0
GALERON wasn’t beaten too far by Paddington in the Irish 2000 Guineas. He was short of room at a crucial stage, nearing the 2f pole, but kept on strongly at the line. A stiffer test is likely to bring out his best but an end-to-end gallop could play into his strengths, as shaping with plenty of stamina in his armoury. Galeron could keep on into the frame at big odds.

5:00PM Ascot Stakes: Law Of The Sea & Call The Wind to battle for glory
🏇
Law Of The Sea
📈
Odds: 11.0
A pair of fair each-way options catch the eye in the Ascot Stakes – a handicap run over 1m6f. LAW OF THE SEA is an ex-Godolphin horse, who has been rejuvenated since running under Ian Williams’ guidance. The handler is no stranger to long-distance race winners and has trained two winners of this race in the previous four seasons – The Grand Visir (2019) and Reshoun (2021). Law Of The Sea was unlucky in the Chester Cup when denied a clear run, prior to a good second over two miles at Haydock. The return to more of a stamina test is likely to prove ideal.
🏇
Calling The Wind
📈
Odds: 13.0
Course winner CALLING THE WIND is another who merits each-way consideration, having run a good third in the extended 2m5f Queen Alexandra Stakes here last term. He’s a strong stayer, who has dropped to a tempting handicap mark (placed off 103) and has the services of top apprentice Billy Loughnane, who takes off a valuable 3lb.

5:35PM Wolferton Stakes: Buckaroo presents a great chance in Day 1’s penultimate race
🏇
Buckaroo
📈
Odds: 8.0
BUCKAROO has already won twice at Listed level – an easy four-length scorer at Curragh last season and a determined reappearance winner at Leopardstown. He stepped up in grade subsequently, with an excellent fourth in Group 1 company at Longchamp, only beaten a neck. A versatile type on different ground conditions, a big effort is anticipated for a trainer who is no stranger to Royal Ascot success.
🏇
Solid Stone
📈
Odds: 13.0
SOLID STONE is an each-way play in the race, with a good record at this venue. For figures of 2534 offer encouragement – the third was in this contest in 2021 and last season he finished a fine fourth in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes over 1m4f. The drop in trip and grade ought to help and he appears overpriced on the pick of his form.

6:10PM Copper Horse Handicap: Vauban the clear choice to close out Day 1
🏇
Vauban
📈
Odds: 3.0
VAUBAN is an obvious but strong selection in the Copper Horse Handicap over 1m6f, despite the big field. The three-time Grade 1-winning hurdler looks to be thrown in on his flat handicap mark of 101. The Willie Mullins-trained five-year-old chestnut gelding enjoys a quick surface and is a strong-travelling type, who should appreciate the likely end-to-end gallop. If he is still on the bridle coming into the home straight, it would be a surprise to see a better-handicapped horse finish stronger.
🏇
Raymond Tusk
📈
Odds: 41.0
RAYMOND TUSK could run better than his huge odds suggest. He ran a fair seventh in this contest last season and is crucially 4lb lower this time around. The likely quick ground will play to his strengths and is a good long odds shout to finish off day 1 of our Royal Ascot tips.
