Torino v Sassuolo
🏟
Saturday 17th September – 7:45PM KO
Confidence can be one of the best weapons in football during the early stages of the season when many teams are feeling their way into the campaign.
Torino have started the season much better than many expected given the drama at their Austrian training camp as the sporting director and the coach were seen arguing and almost coming to blows over a lack of signings. They then did get a few deals done but many still feared for Ivan Juric’s side. They have got a promising 10 points from their first six games, and they are already four points ahead of this weekend’s opponents, Sassuolo.
The Neroverdi seem to be struggling to adapt to a time when they no longer have Gianluca Scamacca and Giacomo Raspadori. Their form is okay but not what that squad is capable of. Given how hard a place the Stadio Olimpico can be to visit under Juric, it is very easy to imagine Torino getting all three points here by a slim winning margin.
The Granata are able to frustrate teams so effectively, as they almost did to Inter last weekend. It was only a very late goal from Marcelo Brozovic that stopped them from getting a great point.
Sassuolo may not quite have the necessary cohesion yet in attack to break down this Torino side.

Udinese v Inter
🏟
Sunday 18th September – 11:30AM KO
It is difficult to get accustomed to the idea of Udinese being an entertaining side who you should back score goals, but here we are.
They became that way under Gabriele Cioffi in the second half of last season and it seems to have continued under Andrea Sottil. They sit fourth in the Serie A table after six games, and they are the joint second highest scorers with 12.
Throw into the mix that Inter are also one of the teams on 12 goals, and you can see the logic in them both scoring here. Udinese are full of confidence and in front of their own fans, they will be convinced that they can get something against an Inter side that is yet to fully convince just yet.
The Derby della Madonnina defeat and then the loss against Bayern Munich in the Champions League really lowered the mood around the team. They’ve since beaten Torino with a late goal and then beaten Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League.
A convincing win at the Dacia Arena would likely see them back on track towards a serious title challenge once again but it will not be an easy task and they will need to impose themselves on the Friulians.

Monza v Juventus
🏟
Sunday 18th September – 2:00PM KO
Juventus might not be pulling up too many trees so far this season, but not winning at Monza is very hard to imagine.
Monza sit bottom of the Serie A table and they only picked up their first point of the season last weekend in a 1-1 draw against Lecce. That was a game where they were lucky to get away with anything. The Giallorossi created far more clear chances in Salento. They have since sacked Giovanni Stroppa so perhaps there could be a reaction in this big game against Juventus, the first time they have ever faced the Bianconeri as a Serie A side.
Even if there is a reaction, there just seems to be so little cohesion in the way that the squad plays, it is easy to see Juventus unpicking them once or twice and then shutting the back door.
Juventus are coming into the game at a real low though as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday night. They are now on 0 points from their first two UCL games and the two teams ahead of them are on six points. They are a team that need a good run of form as they harboured serious hopes of winning Serie A this season and as it stands, they do not look like a more consistent side than the likes of AC Milan, Napoli, Inter and AS Roma.
Despite all of this, they should have more than enough to beat Monza.

Roma v Atalanta
🏟
Sunday 18th September – 7:45PM KO
This is one of the two stand-out fixtures from Matchday 7 in Serie A. AS Roma badly needed last weekend’s victory against Empoli as they had previously been beaten 4-0 by Udinese and then lost late on to Ludogorets Razgrad in the Europa League.
Those results really burst the bubble of possibility but the Empoli win made sure it did not become a serious rut. This is going to be a seriously tough test though.
Atalanta are doing significantly better than expected given the departures and general atmosphere at the club as the season got underway. They are unbeaten and are sat in second place on 14 points, the same number as AC Milan and Napoli.
They are one of the form sides and they will feel that they can get something from this match at the Stadio Olimpico, especially as the Giallorossi will be coming off the back of a European game against Helsinki.
When you put together the confidence and freshness of Atalanta and then the fact that Roma will be desperate to win a big game in front of their own fans, both teams should be going for this one and trying to get ahead early.
That lends itself to both sides finding the back of the net at some point in the game.

AC Milan v Napoli
🏟
Sunday 18th September – 7:45PM KO
This will be such a fascinating test for both of these teams and is probably the must-see fixture of the weekend. They have both played once against a fellow top seven team this season, with Milan beating Inter and Napoli beating Lazio.
They are both sat on 14 points, and it is a golden opportunity for one of them to start asserting some dominance over the league table, especially if Atalanta were to lose or draw with Roma.
Milan come into this one off the back of a very comfortable 3-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb at San Siro in the Champions League, whilst Napoli arrive in Lombardia having just won 3-0 against Rangers in Glasgow in the same tournament. They both love to attack, they’ve both got multiple players who will start and can hurt the opposition and that is why there should be goals.
It is not in the nature of either side to think that a draw will be an acceptable result here just to avoid the other team getting all three points. They will both be trying to win the game and they are both capable of doing so.
Napoli will be further buoyed by the fact that if they apply pressure and then get caught on the counter, Rafael Leao will not be part of that counterattack as he is suspended having been sent off against Sampdoria.
