League Cup quarter-final time and although rotation is often the norm in this competition for Premier League teams, I fully expect both these sides to take this game very seriously. First of all, it is a London Derby- both sides don’t like each other to say the least, and bragging rights across the English capital is massively important for both sets of fans. Secondly, this is a trophy that both clubs have a genuine chance of winning. Spurs are without a trophy since winning this competition back in 2007 and for West Ham, you have to go back even further with the 1980 FA Cup their last piece of silverware.
With that in mind, I would not be surprised at all to see both sides name much stronger starting XI’s than you might normally expect. Some rotation is inevitable given the heavy Christmas schedule but still fully expect this to be a high-quality, intense affair between two sides who will be desperate to reach the semi-finals. The game is to be shown on Sky Sports and is the pick of the League Cup Quarterfinals for me so I have put together a Cheat Sheet and my favored Bet Builder tips & predictions for this one.
Spurs v West Ham Bet Builder Tips & Predictions
Over 3.5 Cards
Now, I mentioned the bitter rivalry between these two, and that should add to a fiery atmosphere in North London on Wednesday night. Conte had his men fired up against Liverpool, the tackle from Harry Kane on Andy Robertson was lucky not to escape a red card but still Spurs picked up 4 cards on the night. Four of the last five meetings between these two sides have featured over 3.5 cards (The other had 3) which show this is traditionally a game that delivers a healthy amount of cards.
The referee on the night, Chris Kavanagh averages comfortably over 4 which gives me a further belief that this selection should deliver, and lets hope and pray for a feisty London Derby on Wednesday evening.
Harry Kane 2+ Shots on Target
Kane looked sharp against Liverpool, probably the best I have seen him look for Spurs all season. He took his goal well and he & Son looked to have reignited their telepathic relationship in attack. He should start in this one (he almost always does) and I fancy him to do the business and register a couple of shots on target against a heavily depleted West Ham backline. The Hammers will likely be without the injured Ogbonna, Zouma, Fredericks, Johnson, Cresswell as well as the suspended Coufal leaving them extremely vulnerable at the back.
Worth also mentioning that Kane has scored 11 Premier League goals to date against West Ham. He has only managed to score more against Leicester City (15) of the teams currently in the Premier League which is certainly a good omen going into this one. His Cheat Sheet stats are unsurprisingly healthy as he tops the list for both shots and shots on target for the hosts- fingers crossed he can do the business again here.
Japhet Tanganga to be Shown a Card
A card to finish and I love the look of Spurs defender Tanganga in this one. He is renowned for being a bit raw and rugged and will be very keen to impress in what is likely to be a rare start under Antonio Conte. He will likely start at right wing-back and will be tasked with dealing with a combination of Jarrod Bowen, Pablo Fornals and Manuel Lanzini who you can see by referring to the Cheat Sheet are amongst the most fouled West Ham players.
Also, have to mention Tanaganga’s Cheat Sheet stats too. He is a clear standout for Spurs and ranks comfortably top for fouls committed and is also amongst one of the most carded. At odds of 4.0 he looks exceptional value to pick up a yellow in this one.
